He said he didn't want Murphy, which is fine, because he isn't going to be traded. Selling low is stupid, and I don't think anybody would deny Murphy's stock dropped after the WJC.

Cole might have scored more goals last year but his best season came as a Hurricane in 06. He was a PPG player for 60 games and was on pace for a 40 goal season. He still managed 30 goals and was an absolute physical force and wrecking ball. A year later he scored 61 points (same as last year) in 10 fewer games. Let's not make it out like Cole's play last year was so outrageous that it was head and shoulders above anything he did as a Hurricane.

He has made his home in Raleigh, and is has mentioned multiple times that he wants to live here after retirement. I am sure that he would be willing to play here if asked.

To: Montreal
Danny Biega
2nd

To: Carolina
Erik Cole

With Montreal absorbing 33% of the cap hit.

Cole and his family lives in Montreal at the moment.

I don't think anybody was making it out like that, no need to be so defensive.

I dunno, with the forward pieces Carolina added in the summer combined with how they responded after Muller took over they could be in a position to go all in at the trade deadline this year, similar to how they came out of the last lockout.

So maybe Cole could see his way back there this season if the timing is right. The price will of course all depend on where they stand, the Habs stand, and how well Cole is playing. A return of him there will have a fluctuating value until some hockey is played. Anything is possible though.

And also people writing off Murphy cause of the WJC are so short sighted it's ridiculous.

If Cole plays at a level that is even remotely close to what he did last season and he wants to be traded to the Canes at the deadline, I'm at least looking for a 1st rounder coming our way if we're out of the playoff picture. Especially considering this what a guy like Paul Gaustad fetched last season.

If Carolina wants a 35 goals scorer that hit, they gotta pay for a 35 goals scorer that hit.

If Cole prefers to retire than play with the Habs, if we cant have what hes really worth on the trade market, then too bad, he can die alone in his house. We wont be giving away a good player for the sake of it. You want him? Pay for him. You dont? Well fock him.

So that means a Really good prospect + 1st pick.

Um, I'd say the top 6 in Montreal is garbage anyway.....

You keep saying that. Cole DD Patches is great, if Bouque and Gionta rebound their top 6 is fine.

Its not the point...Were not trading the 11th best scorer in the NHL last year. I agree about Jordan Staal, he's very good but Semin is meh to me. Look at Habs board last summer, most of us were not interested in Semin at all.

Pacioretty-DD-Cole are a really good first line
Bourque/Gally-Plekanec-Gionta are a decent 2nd line too

Not fantastic but I'd say middle of the league.

Given the situation Montreal is in if players don't want to be there, for whatever reason, it's time to ship them out. This is team that has to be looking forward with fresh faces who want to be part of the adventure.

The entire idea that Cole would ask out of Montreal is ridiculous. He had the opportunity to sign with the Hurricanes two years ago, milked the Habs for every penny he could get, and now he wants to back out of his commitment to that contract because he doesn't like being away from Raleigh and the CBA might cut into his profit margin?

I'm sorry, but that is a man who needs to shut his mouth and go back to work.

Erik Cole is a ruthless mercenary. If you read his quotes you'll realize he is so greedy he can't fathom the escrows. He is a great hockey player but he is a POS in terms of team.

That's not any leverage if he's ready to retire.

Cole can go retire for all I care, guy exemplifies the definition of greed. Says he doesn't like the new CBA? What a bum, I used to actually like the guy but now? Greedy ***** is all he is, hope he has horrible seasons the rest of his career
