Duchene for Gardiner (or similar defenseman) Discussion
Duchene for Gardiner (or similar defenseman) Discussion
It seems Colorado has an interesting situation developing down the middle. With Stastny, Duchene, and the emergence of O'Reilly there is reason to believe they may explore moving one of them to fill in holes in other areas. Perhaps one of Duchene or O'Reilly can move to the wing and Colorado fans can correct me on this.
But assuming they would rather trade one of these three I guess the decision comes down to trading Duchene for immediate help - young player, equal potential, or Stastny after this season from a collection of picks and prospects. I see Colorado with a nucleus that is growing nicley and I would imagine the priority would be to add a higher quality piece and fill a hole. Duchene could get them that piece.
Their current D is:
Erik Johnson
Hedja
Zanon
Wilson
O'Brien
O'Byrne
Hunwick
And top D prospects:
Barrie
Siemens
Elliot
I see a lot of Depth and not a lot of quality on that blueline. Johnson is the only high quality, offensive player on their current roster and coming off a respectable season in regards to offense with 26 points in 72 games. He seems to be developing more into a two-way defenseman with quite bit of offense but there is nothing ground breaking there offensively.
Barrie seems to be the only offensive defenseman coming up but I wouldn't consider him a blue chipper. In my opinion Colorado could do with a young up and coming offensive defenseman/powerplay specialist.
Looking around the league at teams with a defenseman that fit that mold and are ready to contribute now I see:
Fowler (ANA)
Faulk (CAR)
Leddy (CHI)
Schultz(EDM) * EDM likely doesnt have interest in duchene
Subban (MTL)
Del Zotto (NYR) * lots of cap tied up in forwards already
Ekman-Larsson (PHX)
Yandle (PHX)
Gardiner (TOR)
Carlson (WSH)
So Colorado fans as well as fans of the above defenseman, what are your thoughts on this. Let's refrain from the "lolz duchene for tavares only" and the same for the other defenseman listed.
Leafs fans severely overrate their players. Gardiner's value isn't in the same stratosphere as Duchene. Add in Grabovski and it still probably doesn't get the deal done.

I'm pretty sure every single Avs fan has said center for a defenceman, so I don't know where you are getting this Tavares talk from like all Avs fans ask for is superstars.
That said, the Avs aren't trading Duchene. And if they were, it would be for a defenceman with incredibly high upside, who is left handed, in an almost 1 for 1 deal.
And no center is going anywhere until O'Reilly is back in North America.

I don't imagine the Avs would want Grabovski and like the other poster had said, the Avs would want a high quality defenseman in a 1 for 1 swap. I've taken the time to list all of those players that exist. Forgetting Gardiner, which of the listed makes sense?

Only Leafs fan do this? You're hilarious.
Leafs say no

Washington doesnt need Duchene
NYR doesnt need Duchene
Montreal doesnt need Duchene
Edmonton needs D more than they need Duchene

Yandle makes the most sense and isn't on your list.

My goodness yes! If the Avs took that deal I'd be calling for Martin for Statsny! Or Ben Lovejoy for O'Reilly

That leaves you Anaheim, Carolina and Chicago.
Good luck.
Why would the leafs say no? This finally gives them the 1st line center they've been looking for for the past few years. Gardiner might be good but how often do young D men come into the league and have a good year then fade back into realistic expectations?

Would love to have a player like Gardiner but wouldn't trade any of our centers for him(besides mitchell). Guys had Concussions issues and the Avs of all teams should know not to get involved with player with concussion problems. And Duchene is worth much more than Gardiner.
Stef Elliott is Colorado's best defensive prospect yet he's omited from the OP.
Not sure he's the best, but he is certainly on the same level as Barrie and Siemens, no idea how you failed to include him OP..
And with Elliott and Barrie at least one of them will likely come out as a Top 4 NHL Dman, they're not blue chippers but they're very good prospects(Barrie especially IMO).
And Duchene is not being traded. 100% gurantee of that at this point. He's a life long Avs fan, who signed a sweetheart deal, and has by far the highest upside of our 3 centers. He's not going anywhere.
Oreilly and Stastny MIGHT be traded, but both can return a hell of a lot more then Leddy or Gardiner or Fowler.

I agree about us not trading Duchene. I would say he is the last of our centers to be traded.

Thanks for wishing us luck. Apparently, we HAVE to trade him and FAST!!

Montreal need any pure talent, Duchene can play winger
Majority of hockey players have had concussions in their careers. It's not some giant issue all of a sudden. Heck three kids on my non-contact hockey team have gotten concussions this season.
