Disagree on both counts. Timonen isn't as effective as he once was, but he's still good. That said, his career as a Flyer is most likely over once his contract ends this off-season.

Schenn had a rough outing as a Leaf, but he's young and will be playing with his brother and a vastly better defensive corps. It's a much better environment and it can do him much good.

Foster is a great guy. Not a terribly good hockey player. Did Barker catch on with the Canucks? Maybe you can target him, too. if you put them in that machine they had in "The Fly" maybe you'd get a real defenseman!
I said it when the deal was made that it was Zidlicky and getting rid of Foster for Palmieri, 2nd, and the conditional. Veillieux was just a useless fourth line that you can call up any AHL player to be.

I have no problem with the conditional, which had to do with the Devils making the ECF I believe. I'd give up that third every day of the week. Devils fans were just as happy we were giving up Foster as they were that we were getting Zidlicky. It was a total quantity over quality deal, it looked bad at the get go but once Wild fans got around to watching Veillieux, Zidlicky, and to a lesser extent Palmieri, they realize that the trade was made for a reason.

It was completely win win for reasons of subtraction. Wild fans were very familiar with Foster and Veillieux and completely disregarded them in the trade for that reason, though i suspect it was partially made to cover for our losses. We got hammered with injuries last year and they had to sign a bunch of players just to keep the farm club at full roster IIRC.

I think Eklund was the first to mention the Foster to Philly stuff

Foster? Holmgren can't be THAT desperate, can he?

To put it into perspective, Foster was a healthy scratch on arguably the worst defence in the league in the 2010-2011 season.

Yeah.

Yeah.
Homer gets a hard-on when ever he has the chance to sign a player that had a good game against the Flyers. Shelley scored some goals against the Flyers so Paul rewarded him w/ a 3 yr deal. Fedotenko killed the flyers since leaving several yrs ago so Homer signed him. Foster I beleive had a 2 goal game against the flyers while with the devils so that explains it.

There's a reason why the Devils had so many SHG against last season...

I understand that, but Timonen brings the same if not greater defensive abilities as Coburn, but a ton more offense. Just for comparisons sake, Matt Carle averaged less than a minute of TOI compared to Coburn in the playoffs. Carle isn't better than Timonen and Coburn is much better than Carle.

You take out Timonen from the lineup, the Flyers are lost. They would certainly miss Coburn, but not to the extent of Timonen

If Philly is doing this, it could mean teams are asking too much for the D that are available and rather sign Foster then pay the price.

Holmgren wouldn't include couturier for weber. He won't do it for kulikov

Holmgren would be a very inept GM to refuse that.

Why do you bold what you want to see... Look at the whole sentence.... He wouldn't INCLUDE coots for weber... He never said he wouldn't do coots for weber.

Poile wanted couturier and schenn and it was a no go. To be honest I just don't see a way for us to upgrade our defense while giving up any roster players. We just do not have the talent in our system, especially top six forwards or top defenseman. Which is why Holmgren basically said take the 4 firsts or pay weber.

Like I said before, Flyers fans thought Kubina was bad; they're getting the same type of player but only worse in Foster. Foster does have his big shot and will help the PP, even though he's more of a PP specialist and not a PP QB, nor never has been. He'll bring some offense but he should be playing extremely limited ES minutes.

Unfortunate situation for the Flyers to be in but he's all there is left on the market.

Soon or later, this will be the Flyers reaction when he's on the ice or makes an absolutely boneheaded move:

I'm sure the Oil would part with Potter for a 4th or 5th rder. As poor as he is, he's still considerably better than Foster.
