People are gonna like Pyatt.

Boyle will continue to be disrespected here.

Two things I'm sure of.

Prucha, Tyutin and a pick

Two years agoiwe were probably in better shape to do a deal, the Kings were still looking for players. Seems like a 'ship thats sailed' situation.

He's going to be playing with two of Hags, Kreider, Cally, Pyatt. How is that less talent than ancient Feds and Prust?

Well to be honest I couldn't remember for sure who he was playing with. How does Pyatt compare to Feds and Prust?

He's not as good defensively. Hits more than Feds less than Prust. Heavy hitter though. More offense than either, but a different style (power forward).

In the past he's been a better scorer than either were last year, but he did kind of take a dip last year

Probably a better goal scorer than either and on a good year could put up 30-35 points

The lines are escaping me and I have to believe that Dubi and Arty are more talented than anyone we picked up not named Nash, but still is it fair to say that our first 3 lines improved this year and our 4th line got worse? The first 2 lines definitely improved, but until today I was under the impression that our 3rd and 4th lines took a dive. Did our 3rd line improve though?

Not really expecting anything more but I will point out he played for a low scoring PHX team. Look at their leading scorer. His totals could go up a bit here.

Swap Dubi for Nash. Swap Arty for Kreider (didn't play in regular season). Swap Fedetenko for Pyatt. Swap Prust for Halpern. Add Asham. You can't forget we added Kreider. When you factor Nash + Kreider against Dubi + Arty you should be okay as long as Kreider proves he's at least ready for regular NHL duty.

Well Kreider did play in the playoffs, then again Gabby was hurt then.

There is no disrespect meant or seen anywhere in my opinion that Boyle isn't good for the 3rd line. I like Brian Boyle a lot. I like his presence in the defensive zone. I like his presence in the locker room. I like his enthusiasm on the ice. I like his awareness of his own game and what he needs to work on. I think he's eminently coachable. I like that he's willing to throw his body, go into corners and stand in front of the net. I like everything about his game, I just don't think that he's consistent enough in his offensive zone presence to warrant a permanent spot on the 3rd line. Therefore, I don't consider him a true third liner. Just like there are guys who are 2nd line players who won't look terribly out of place on the first line (Ryan Callahan), there are guys who are 4th line players who don't look terribly out of place on the 3rd line. That doesn't mean they should be there permanently. When Boyle is going? Sure, put him on the 3rd line. I'd just like to have options for when he isn't.

It's a huge, beautiful sports complex, that they share with the Knicks

Where is this notion that third liners are supposed to have a big time offensive presence coming from though? On average third liners score from 15-30 points, league wide and most third lines are considered 'shut down' or 'energy' lines. What you described about Boyle fits shutdown and energy to a T and he also produces on the upper end of the spectrum for third liners.

I don't think Torts allow the public to view the Rangers' practices.

I don't think its Torts, I think its more to do with MSG/Training Center/Team policy. Does anyone know if the Knicks ever had open practice/open camp to the public at anytime since the move to the Training Center happened?

What in the world are you talking about. Big time offensive presence is nothing I ever said. Consistent offensive zone presence in what I said. Not big time. Not offensive. Consistent offensive zone. As in, noticeable in a positive way on the majority of shifts in the offensive zone. He doesn't need to score. He just needs to do positive things more consistently. Remotely different concepts.

Also, he didn't produce at the upper end of 3rd liners last year. 86 centers had more points on the season than he did.

He started 70% of his shifts in the defensive zone and ended 50% in the offensive zone. That's a positive offensive impact.

That's because he was mostly used as a fourth line center last year. What planet are you on? He is very positively noticeable, especially for a guy whose been playing FOURTH line center with PRUST and Fedetenko as linemates. Jeez. Come back to earth.

There is no quantitative way to measure what I'm talking about, since I'm talking about quality of shifts.

Ending 50% of his shifts in the offensive zone (and if you're going to round, be consistent. It's 40%) would be great with that defensive zone start frequency. Except in the majority of those shifts, very little actually happened once he got there. Maybe he was too tired from having to work at getting the puck out, but if that's the case, it isn't what I want in a 3rd line center anyway.
