Has a one year deal with a lot of incentive to perform and also is coming from a really defensive system (so he'll fit ours) and much lower scoring team, so his offense might open up a bit. Either way, however, I don't think young players with fresh legs in he answer. You think we're going to win the Cup with a bunch of rookies in the lineup? I'm fine with a depth signing, though I do think our third line is fine and people are selling Boyle/Pyatt short, but having depth will never hurt. I don't think rookies will do us any good though unless they're extremely ready. Miller is not. He's 19. He'll be a great third line option, hopefully next year, but he's just not ready to be a solid third liner on a Cup contender; no way. Hrivik is injured. Either way, I'd rather have experience and go all in for the Cup than have Kreider, Miller and Hrivik in the lineup.
No I think we have a much better chance with the younger guys since they're much better at playing the game of hockey than scrubs like Rupp/Asham and stone handed grinders like Pyatt. Experience is vastly overrated here and teams should be implementing younger players into the lineup. The Kings for example had Dwight King and Jordan Nolas, both rookies, play down the stretch instead of grizzled veterans like Moreau and Hunter and look how that turned out. I don't care if a player is 38 or 18 on the bottom 6, if you can effectively skate the puck out of your own end, you're good in my books. Rupp certainly couldn't do that last year.

Have you ever even watched Pyatt played. He's just like Dwight King. And if you think you're winning with a bunch of inexperienced rookies who aren't even ready, we just disagree on a molecular level and I'm not going to pursue it further.

Which is why Jason Arnott is intriguing. At the very least, he isn't any slower than Brian Boyle

I have watched Pyatt play, he is nothing special. He has hands of stone, but has size and doesn't use it to his advantage. He isn't overly fast, but good for his height and he's a pretty streaky player. Dwight King on the other hand is pretty much the exact opposite. He has nice wheels, he uses his size and is far more skilled than Pyatt.

Flavor of the month because the Kings won the Cup. King and Pyatt play very similar games. Pyatt uses his size very well and his hands are better than you give him credit for. King has better wheels and is still very unproven. I'm done with this thread. Speculation is leading to fighting and it's not worth the headache. We'll be happier when the season starts and we can unite over kicking butts.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC

Pat Leonard @NYDNRangers
#NYR camp running Sunday through Friday, 12pm start on Sunday, 11am start the rets of the days

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
and off-ice activities will be limited to 1.25 hours per day. Teams are also supposed to give one day off in the first 10 days, but...

Pyatt's always had good linemates. In Vancouver, he was the Sedins top linemate for one season. In Phoenix he played with Doan, Lang(when he was good), Lombardi(when he was good) and Vrbata too. He's sorta effective as an ES scorer, but his numbers obviously declined when he was fixed in as a 4th liner with Phoenix. He's a decent player, but I think he is more suitable for a 4th line role. People see the size and speed and think wow, he could be a nice complimentary player to the top 6. He has been a project player his whole career with the Sabres/Canucks and eventually fit into his role as a 4th liner with the Coyotes. He has tools and hopefully he can be to us like what Steve Bernier was to the Devils and their 4th line last year. *Minus the game misconduct penalties, of course.

Pyatt's going to have good linemates in Boyle/Callahan.

Why do you state that Callahan will be there instead of Hagelin or Kreider as fact? And if Boyle were some sort of playmaker that would make more sense.

I seriously doubt Nash/Gaborik will be playing on the LW, based on what I've read. Callahan is a RWer. Do the math.

But if it makes you happy, Pyatt's going to have good linemates in 2 of Boyle/Callahan/Hagelin/Kreider.

I hate how the CBA in football and hockey has wussified the training camps. These are professional athletes making millions of dollars and they have to be babied?

Ok, but neither Boyle nor Callahan really make the players around them better offensively.

Seriously wtf? 6 days to get ready and limited to only 3 hours per day? That might be cool for teams that cry we are boring cause we outwork them for 60 straight minutes every game but not here

If the guys want to work out more, I'm sure they can. Torts probably just can't be there. They'll probably have additional, optional, 'informal' skates without him.

Agree, I think football is particularly pathetic with the new rules.

I know torts wanted to show a good bit of tape...particularly to the new guys. I guess they can hand out dvds to watch on their own time.

Wait, there's a limit to how much tape they can watch? So this isn't about injuries, this is about laziness?

I think they can watch all the tape they want. I'm sure the limit on off-ice activities means physical activities. Off ice cardio and lifting. I'm sure they can spend as much time together discussing strategy and viewing tape as they want.

To me off ice activities means team meetings, watching tape, weight room, etc. Guess we need a clarification on that because that would be ridiculous.

I almost guarantee it is referring to physical activities. That's how it always is. Even my college team had a rule from the school about how many hours we were allowed for on ice and off ice activities, because of injuries, insurance, etc. and it didn't include meetings. It was about weight room time and ice time. We also would just schedule things like informal runs without the coach and get the whole team and go for a long run or something. Or just do extra weight room time individually in the gym.

I'm sure the word "optional" will be present on the training camp schedule quite a few times. Unless you want to look like a *********, it would behoove you to attend a lot of these "optional" activities.. CBA circumvention avoided using the right verbage..
