Yikes, they lose their top 4 players then get blown out at home on free stick night. They're all going to have to quickly remember how they won last year.

They shouldn't even bother bringing up MPS and VV. Neither of them has a hope of being on the opening day roster.

Without looking at the stat sheet, I think Paajarvi-Lander-Pitlick has been on the ice for at least 4 goals against.
Lander went -4 and the other two were -3. Ouch.

New guy on defence (Hotham) was even. Did he play a lot I wonder?

Barons lose 7-0. What an ugly game for OKC with the Fab Four now in Edmonton. Have been outscored 13-3 w/out Oilers young studs.

Somebody needs to step up soon for this team in a big way.

Hotham looked like he played just as much as any d-man.

Yep, bought the season pass at the beginning of the year. Going to try to keep watching as many as I can.

Good for you. I was following on the free streams and I kind of enjoyed watching. Guess the only way to follow along now is to keep reading this thread so I hope the guys like you who bought the package will keep posting your impressions of the games here.

The Barons' failures are indicative of Tambellini's failures as GM and MacGregor's failures as head scout. They've done nothing but pick first overall.

Hotham took a bunch of bad penalties. What a brutal game.

Pretty much all that needs to be said. I scoff at those who were all up on MacGregors jock these past couple seasons. There is much work to be done. Much.
Organization better hope, pray that even just 1, let alone 2 of these later round picks can pan out aside from Hartikainen, cuz right now it doesn't look good. Never understood how or why people were so high on Pitlick. I still have hopes for Lander as a solid 3rd/4th line centre.

The team has no AHL vets to speak off. Danis, Green and Arcobello basically. I think after the departure of big boys, this kind of outcome was to be expected. I think it will be a long season for OKC from now on, unless Lander, Paajarvi and Pitlick discover a scoring touch and go on a tear from now on.
There might be a minor league trade sooner rather than later.

I agree, other than their 1st overall picks, they haven't been able to develop anybody.

This. The team is too young. Losing Helmer on the back end was a blow. The d is too inexperienced. The problem is, with the lockout coming, they needed to have room for Hall, Eberle, RNH, and Schultz so they couldn't sign players to fill the spots once those guys left.

Lets also be honest and admit that even with the big 4 down there, the team often did have bad habits. The thing is, with the skill of those 4 guys, they didn't have to worry too much. Now that they are gone, the coach actually has to have another system rather than rely on the NHL guys.

To paint this all as a failure of Tambo and MacGregor is ridiculous.

The players down in Oklahoma or Stockton from the Hall draft:

Tyler Pitlick-disappointing but he was projected to go in that area and you can tell he has ability, he still has time to put it together.

Martin Marincin-excellent pick, even with his recent struggles.

Curtis Hamilton-see Pitlick.

Ryan Martindale-I think he has a higher ceiling than either Pitlick or Hamilton but it's on him to reach it.

Tyler Bunz-statistically not doing well in Stockton, but going by his junior career he was a good pick.

Brandon Davidson-was doing well until his illness. He was a very good pick at that point in the draft.

Kristians Pelss-seventh round pick was doing ok in Stockton until the suspension and was a good off the board pick.

Oh, look at that, those are all the players from the Hall draft that are down in the minors. All the other players from the RNH draft and the Yakupov draft are not pro yet. Lets not write off the scouting just yet. None of the listed players are busts yet.

The Barons are faring much better tonight. They just took a 3-1 lead but Charlotte responded quickly. 3-2 Barons in the 2nd period.

Arcobello, Cornet and Rajala have the Barons goals and they're leading in shots 19-11.

Yuck. The Checkers tied the game 3-3 with barely any time left. The Barons are outshooting Charlotte something like 34-14. They deserve this one but Danis has let in a couple of squeakers.

4-3 Checkers :40 seconds into OT after Cornet took a dumb penalty.

16 shots; 4 goals against for Danis. He's really stinking it up this year.

Checkers win in OT on the PP.

Bright side, Hartsy bounced back and again, looked like he wants a shot at the NHL.

I was going to post before the game that I wasn't sure why Danis was starting after having a game like he did last night. Roy deserves more of a chance to prove himself by getting some starts.

Before we all panic over the Barons remember that they were actually a very good team last year. They don't have any AHL vets, if they picked up a couple they'd likely look a lot better. Young teams generally do not do well in the AHL. That doesn't mean the prospects aren't legitimate or developing. Though I am worried about a couple of these guys like Pitlick and Lander.

The Barons were weak on the backend too last year, but solid team defense made up for it and certainly helped Danis.

Missing from last years team is Helmer(F), Tremblay(F), Keller(F), Chorney(D), O'Marra(F)/Rodney(D), Yeo(D), Grant(F), Montgomery(D), Tulupov(D), Lowery(D).

As you can see, alot of these players are dmen, and many of them were midseason additions. I see some movement ahead, even some of the top AHL players may be available if the Oilers are willing to spend use a contract spot on them.

Edit: Missed Ringwald.

Agreed, I've seen too many back to back games with Roy not getting a start. It doesn't make any sense, this is the AHL, prospect development is supposed to be #1 priority and Roy hasn't even been getting a sniff.

Not a bad night for the call-ups in a 4-3 OT loss.

Rajala and Cornet had a goal each and Martindale had an assist.
