only the leafs would have a 4 page thread on the main trade board for signing a defenseman that is unlikely to ever sniff the nhl this season.

you guys sure are dedicated

He'll almost certainly be playing with the Marlies (hence the two-way deal). If he's with the Leafs he becomes another Brett Lebda or John Mitchell and instantly the most hated person in Toronto. I don't think we have to worry about him making the team. We have:

1. Phaneuf
2. Gunnarsson
3. Gardiner
4. Holzer
5. Liles
6. Komisarek
7. Franson
8. Fraser
9. Rielly
10. Kostka

All should easily be ahead of him.

We are about to deplete the Marlies of a couple Dmen. Better pick up someone who can skate backwards occasionally.
Good move.

It's true. We're the ones who've helped increase the value of a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 7 years to become the first hockey team ever worth $1,000,000,000.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

That's what having a fanbase is like.

Anyways, blatant Marlies signing that likely won't see a day with the big club unless something goes horribly wrong.

Holzer fourth on the depth chart?

Like some Islanders fans said, you aren't gonna like this guy. We had him with the Devils for 3 years, and somehow he was a +28 one year!

The thing I remember the most about him? He deflected in more goals into his own net, than any player I've ever seen. He scored more goals for the opposition than anyone I can ever remember.

After Brett "minus three in a nine three win" Lebda we at least know it could always be worse.

Loved Mottau when he was a Devil certainly not anything more than a 6/7 guy but he plays his role well and is a great teammate.

To Vancouver:
Motto
Komisarek

2014 6th rd. pick (2013 is a deep draft)

To Toronto:
Luongo
Kesler (his value is less because he's currently injured. buy low sell high right?)
This might possibly be the worst trade proposal I have ever seen.

Luongo and Kesler for nothing of value.

Yes, and this clearly means there is a Luongo trade coming. Mike Mottau was just the hold up all along

Hes going to play on the Marlies. The Leafs are taking at least two, maybe 3 Marlies.

It is a rumored two way contract so it could just be Kostka is coming up to replace Gardiner while he is injured and Mottau is going down to the marlies to replace Kostka.

think back to Burkes first deal

The only thing that comes to mind with regards to Mike Mottau is how he somehow managed to avoid suspension for his knee-on-knee hit to Frans Nielsen of the Isles one Saturday afternoon a few years ago.

Holzer fourth on the depth chart?

Mottau being signed I think just reinforces this. Leafs want Ranger, but he's not personally ready for the Show and management respects that.

Holzer and Franson would not be, especially Franson. Blacker is still a prospect and still projected for NHL duty, so don't know where you can say that. Komi is Komi... And Kostka, Mottau and Fraser are specifically brought in as AHL Dmen that can shuffle up and down and rotate as 7th D in the NHL if needed - so thanks for pointing that out.

Agreed. Mottau's solid as a 5-6-7 guy if you need him to be.

Mottau should not be in the NHL. There are so many AHL Dmen are are steps above him, these signings make me shake my head. Just because he USED to be an NHL Dman doesn't mean he should still be one.

I hope for Toronto's sake this is not a precursor to moving another Dman out, because if the time ever comes where they need Mottau to play semi-important minutes than they will be finishing bottom 5 guaranteed. 7 mins a game is his max.
