Yes, my impression is that they're line one. He's been playing with Porter and Mancari for a couple games now on the second line, but with Hodgson and Foligno moving on to Buffalo this week, the line's now viewed as the first line, with Tarnasky-Adam-Flynn as the second.

That's good to see and he had a 2 assist night to boot.

Would it be safe to assume his PK and PP duties will increase as well?

He definitely is getting PP time now. His effort led to the Amerks first goal last night. I don't recall if they used him on the PK though.

Zemgus Girgensons' 2 assists spark Amerks in win:
A fitting farewell (temporary or not) for Brennan:WGR - Girgensons ready for bigger role in Rochester.
I had a good laugh when I saw this today. Has anyone ever got so much praise for a 2 assist night? He played a decent game, made a great play on Flynn's goal. Honestly can't remember much else from him. Mancari's goal he swept a backhand on goal that hit the post and Mancari finished an open net. Porter actually made the whole play pulling up and finding the late trailer. I get he's 19 and a first rounder but give me a break...

I think both articles were a little too much for a 2 assist night. Last night was the ultimate team win with everyone contributing(albeit against the worst team in the league). After Wednesday everyone took the entire team to task for their terrible play and rightfully so. Think they could have focused a little more on the team win than just Girgensons. I could see if they won 2-1 and he had both assists but a 5-2 win with multiple guys having 2 points, come on. Luke Adam had 2 assists as well.

You're really trying too hard to be mad.

A 2pt game for a kid like Girgensons is a big deal for him and not surprisingly its the focus of post game articles. Not sure why this would "make you laugh".

AHL#36 – Amerks at Crunch – Sat Jan 12 – 7:305M ET – TV: TWCS – Radio: WHTK-AM

Stevens tweeted in broken English that it's the same lineup as last night, including Brennan; Leggio's 30th start of the season.
Quote:
28 Zemgus Girgensons - 12 Kevin Porter (C) - 25 Mark Mancari (A)
74 Nick Tarnasky - 72 Luke Adam - 10 Brian Flynn
92 Kevin Sundher - 22 Phil Varone - 15 Evan Rankin
91 Frederick Roy - 32 Rick Schofield - 29 Maxime Legault

2 Joe Finley - 13 Mark Pysyk
3 TJ Brennan (A) - 4 Alex Biega
7 Brayden McNabb - 20 Nick Crawford

33 David Leggio
49 Connor Knapp
It'll be interesting to see which team shows up, Wednesday's or Friday's, against the top AHL team. Syracuse isn't Hamilton.

Richard Panik of the Crunch just got tossed for a cheap shot on Girgs:

Quote:
#SyrCrunch RW Richard Panik assessed game misconduct for late hit on #Amerks LW Zemgus Girgensons. Surely #AHL will take a look at that one.

Girgensons had to be carried off the ice early in the 2nd after receiving a dirty hit from Panik. No word on whether or not he'll return. It looked nasty, all we can do is hope for the best.

Just to elaborate on the hit... Girgensons had knocked the puck ahead down the boards, looking over one shoulder... he began to curl inside immediately after and as he turns his head around, Panik smokes him, over a second late... not a head shot, clearly shoulder to body, but blows him up into the boards nonetheless with his head bouncing off both wall and ice... stretcher was brought out, but after a couples minutes on ice, he was helped into tunnel with the stretcher left unused.

Brennan also fought Panik immediately, which was refreshing to see from a Buffalo perspective.

As for the game, it's 1-0 Amerks midway through the 2nd... a rebound goal by Schofield... and as I type this, Finley got owned in his fight with Neilson.

EDIT: 2-0 Amerks! Tarnasky with sharp-angle goal.

It's still 2-0 Amerks after two periods.

2. RCH Schofield, (4) (Sundher, Biega), 5:11
2. RCH Tarnasky, (8) (Flynn, Crawford), 13:26 (PP)

-Leggio with 25 saves,
-Rochester has had seven powerplays.

Fighting majors for Sundher and Johnson.

Brett Connolly with a pp goal brings the Crunch within 1.

A bomb from Brennan on a 2-man advantage adds to the lead. It is now 4-2, the Amerks are still on the pp.

Is Syracuses defense that bad? Or was Rochesters offense that good?

Amerks were pretty solid tonight... drew a lot of penalties, had at least two posts and a couple missed chances (Varone walking in on a 2-on-1 and McNabb in the slot are two that spring to mind)... and idk that Girgensons escapes without injury; major whiplash on that one. Overall, an impressive back-to-back effort for the club.

Rochester's offense is good, though Syracuse did have an ejection (Panik) to drop them to 10 forwards and an ECHL recall (Landry) among their 7 D tonight. They also were without Conacher on offense.

Girgensons hit was nasty. From what I could see live and from the one replay they showed it appeared that Girgs left his feet, the back of his head making first/solid contact with the glass.

He was down an out on the ice for minutes, from my perspective I could not see how he got off. Scary.

Good to see Brennan get into it immediately. He was chirping the Crunch solid down on our end towards the end of the game.

Finley fought and it was pathetic.

The Amerks won, but to me looked soft. They were outshot 42 to 30 or something close to that..

That Girgensons hit was scary. Slip and I were at the game and we both thought he looked catatonic, with his head and one skate up off the ice, not moving at all. From our angle, it looked like the way he got hit bounced him off a hard edge of the boards, where the have the door to the locker room. The fact that he got off the ice more or less under his own power was a huge relief.

Rochester was incredibly deflated for a good 6 or so minutes of game time afterward, then started picking up the pace again. Up until his injury, I thought Girg was the best skater on the ice. Very quick, good hands, and bumping a bit.

A few observations:

~ Lots of fights, but basically no bodychecks from Amerks.
~ Game could have been 7-0. The goal against was basically Finley being in terrible defensive position, and they bounced shots off the Crunch bar twice.
~ On a related note, Helenius played a helluva game. He made several outstanding saves, and could not be faulted on several of the goals against. One goal, in particular, it was almost as if the Crunch had no players on the ice other than him.
~ Adam took a terrible tripping penalty, but otherwise had a pretty decent game. He had the puck on a 2-on-1 break late in the game, but an excellent defensive play by the Crunch blueline prevented the pass. Adam was still able to drag the puck around him and get a decent shot on goal.
~ The Syracuse Ice Girls probably have to have notes from their parents to be out late. Holy Middle School Gymnastics Team, Batman.

Rolston didn't give any details post-game, just noted that Girgensons would ride the bus home with them; so no, not yet.
Quote:
Panik hit Girgensons head-first into the boards. He walked gingerly off the ice and to the locker room after it appeared that he might be carted off on a stretcher.

Panik received a game misconduct, while Girgensons did not return. “He was evaluated, it was just precautionary,” said Rochester coach Ron Rolston.

Rolston said Girgensons would ride with the team back to Rochester.
