“@AnthonySan37: I am told the #Flyers will in fact sign UFA defenseman Kurtis Foster today to a one year, $950K contract. Details to come later this AM #NHL”
The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have agreed to contract terms with 6-5, 225-lb free agent defenseman Kurtis Foster, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.
The signing has been announced on flyers.nhl.com. I'm wondering if maybe teams around the league are not willing to deal with the Flyers after the way Holmgren forced Nashville's hand with the Shea Weber offer sheet.......

NHL teams look out for themselves and themselves only. Nashville probably won't deal with the Flyers. Other teams will carry on as usual.

Out of interest, did Weber end up getting an NTC in his contract? Pretty sure I read he didn't. That ship had likely sailed anyway, but nice to know any chance of the Flyers getting him is all but dead and buried

Not according to capgeek at least. As long as it's not allowed to trade cash for players, Weber is not going anywhere, considering the amount of money they're paying him the first few years. He's a Predator for life.

Well, if Jimmy Develano's comments about the Flyers and them trying to poach Weber as an RFA were correct, there might be quite a few teams who won't want to deal with the Flyers. Fact is, this is still an old boy's club and that you can bet plenty of owners were upset with how the Flyers went about business with Weber. I think it's very possible that the owners might teach the Flyers a lesson by refusing to deal with them. I suppose though there will always be a Carolina that will always deal with them, no matter what......

I think that's really reading into things a bit, right?
The Flyers inability to acquire a better defenseman via trade (assuming they were actively trying to do so) likely has more to do with who they weren't willing to give up than any blackballing from the Weber saga.

Maybe. But at the same time, Develano's comments have some merits. It'll be interesting to see how the season plays out. If the Flyers try to make deals and no one is willing to talk turkey, we'll know for certain.

It would probably help if we had tradeable assets that we wanted to trade.
Garbage! Why bother with these stiffs! Yeah this oaf is going to do great in Lavy's system. PP specialist...maybe..but we have to get it out of our end and setup first...

This is simply ludicrous. Signing Foster is a sign that NHL managers won't talk to Holmgren? Yeah right, last time I checked, every team in the league could use another top 4 defenseman. That is why the Flyers didn't trade for one today. There is an extremely high demand, and basically no supply.
And "teaching a lesson?" Even more laughable. The meatheads that make up the Flyers brass aren't going to let silly comments by Devellano get to them. Bottom line is, the Flyers have been disliked for years and the NHL is a business, and sometimes you have to do business with people you don't like. I'm Still waiting for the Flyers to be blacklisted over that Kesler offer sheet.

They were out of options on the power play. I'm guessing they don't want Coburn on it.
