Renaud Lavoie ‏@RenLavoieRDS
Scott Gomez won't be on the ice this morning. He's not injured. Uncertain future with the Canadiens.

Buyout time?

Maybe a buyout, though the amnesty ones don't start until season's end, no?

Correct, AFAIK. Should be interesting to see how this develops.

Hopefully no one traded for him, and I don't see why Montreal wouldn't wait one more year to go amnesty. I'll say it's maintenance-related.

Gomez for Redden

maybe the HABS are going to eat it this yr and have him sit like Redden will be doing with the Rangers?

Is it still possible to buy him out in the "usual" way at this time of year?

Probably been Reddened. Will be left at home until they can buy him out during the summer.

Yes, but I can't see why in the world the Habs would do it and eat that cap hit over a few seasons

He can't be buy out until next season.

Maybe they're sending him back to the ECHL and paying him for nothing?

May have decided to send him home to ensure he doesn't get injured. Can't say I'll be sad to see him go

makes no sense to buy him out. Either it is a trade, a demotion (still doesn't make sense cause they now count on the cap as well) or his is sick, hungover etc lol

Maybe he is now a special adviser to the board????

It would really suck for him to just sit a do nothing until July. He is really well liked in the dressing room.

edit: Press conference in 15 mins re: Gomez.

This sounds like a distinct possibility to me. You can't buy-out an injured player, so they may just shelter him until.

Gomez will NOT be playing in the AHL this season; he will not be playing anywhere until his contract is bought out this summer.
That would be...harsh.

Gomez camp very disappointed and upset. Scott was told he was attending camp. Gomez's full cap hit will count against MTL's cap this season

You allowed to do that?

Or are they going to give him a capcussion?

Scott Gomez status is not like Wade Redden, I've been told. Marc Bergevin will address the media soon in Brossard.

I guess they just don't want him around the team. Can't wait to see how veterans especially his friend Gionta reacts to this

Honestly... if this is true... what an oversight by the NHL and PA... to not give teams the option of using the buyouts immediately or at the end of the season.

If they bought him out then that would be a big big mistake. I have a feeling that he is going to sit in the AHL this season.
