Duchene is Colorado's best centre by a country mile. He's not on the market and would not even be considered to be moved for Gardiner. Not that Gardiner is on the market either, but Duchene is so much more valuable than Gardiner it isn't even funny. Leafs fan btw.

Wow this thread is a tire fire.

Only defensemen worth around/more than Duchene are Carlson, Subban, OEL and Yandle. I'd only say Carlson and OEL are worth more - Carlson has an insanely good contract for a guy who looks on the cusp of becoming a #1 and OEL seems to have even higher potential. Gardiner's value is around what Orlov's is. Does Orlov fetch Duchene straight up? If so, McPhee better get right the **** on it.

The only way Colorado is moving a center,(barring massive overpayment) is if its a situation where they cant come to terms with ROR. Why would they break up their core for a young Dman they might have in Elliott or Barrie. More so why wouldn't they just wait 2 years to find out? Not to mention if the season goes south a highly rated Dman in Jones is a possibility. Its not like they are contending right for a cup and need the upgrade immediately. Thats why I said in the other ROR trade thread the only feasible trade i see is a O'reilly+ kulikov swap if both teams arent going to be able to resign

Why doesn't Toronto build something around Neon Dion for Statsny.
Both players have high cap hits and only a couple years left. Each team deals from position of strength and fills a weakness.

Dion can fill the 1st pairing left side void in Colorado and proved be can still produce points. While Toronto has Liles Gardiner and Gunnarson to fill the points and left side D corps.

Statsny is replaced by Duchene and Toronto actually has a quality center for Phil.

That would be so horrible and sweet at the same time. Don't think we do that bad though, right? ...Right?

Sbisa ++ for Duchene? The Ducks won't be giving up Fowler, he's virtually untouchable.

And what exactly do you think Duchene is to Colorado if not "virtually untouchable"?

If we lose Getzlaf then Fowler should be used to get a Duchene type player.

Perhaps one of Duchene or O'Reilly can move to the wing and Colorado fans can correct me on this.

But assuming they would rather trade one of these three I guess the decision comes down to trading Duchene for immediate help - young player, equal potential, or Stastny after this season from a collection of picks and prospects. I see Colorado with a nucleus that is growing nicley and I would imagine the priority would be to add a higher quality piece and fill a hole. Duchene could get them that piece.

Their current D is:

Erik Johnson
Hedja
Zanon
Wilson
O'Brien
O'Byrne
Hunwick

And top D prospects:

Barrie
Siemens
Elliot

I see a lot of Depth and not a lot of quality on that blueline. Johnson is the only high quality, offensive player on their current roster and coming off a respectable season in regards to offense with 26 points in 72 games. He seems to be developing more into a two-way defenseman with quite bit of offense but there is nothing ground breaking there offensively.

Barrie seems to be the only offensive defenseman coming up but I wouldn't consider him a blue chipper. In my opinion Colorado could do with a young up and coming offensive defenseman/powerplay specialist.

Looking around the league at teams with a defenseman that fit that mold and are ready to contribute now I see:

Fowler (ANA)
Faulk (CAR)
Leddy (CHI)
Schultz(EDM) * EDM likely doesnt have interest in duchene
Subban (MTL)
Del Zotto (NYR) * lots of cap tied up in forwards already
Ekman-Larsson (PHX)
Yandle (PHX)
Gardiner (TOR)
Carlson (WSH)

So Colorado fans as well as fans of the above defenseman, what are your thoughts on this. Let's refrain from the "lolz duchene for tavares only" and the same for the other defenseman listed.
as a leafs fan i say hell yeah, We finally get are 1c

How is Duchene worth MUCH MUCH more than Gardiner?

Last years stats

Jake Gardiner 7 goals 23 assists 30 points -2 18 PIM

Matt Duchene 14 goals 14 assists 28 Points -11 8 PIM

Oh yea, and Jake Gardiner plays DEFENCE and still outscored him last year. Jake Gardiner also played almost no powerplay time as well, so if he plays the powerplay more this year, expect his numbers to only go UP. I do expect Duchene to bounce back this year but he also has issues personality wise as well. So IMO, you can't say that Duchene is worth MUCH MUCH MORE than Gardiner, if he is at all.

I would be down for a Phaneuf for Duchene trade, only if the Leafs aren't making a run at the playoffs this year. If they are, they will need Dion badly. If they are planning for next season, then I do it in a heartbeat. The defence next year would be fine with Jake Gardiner and Morgan Reilly taking over the Defence core

Gardiner + Kadri for Duchene

That's what it'll take.

Did Duchene become 30yo and regressed to a 4th line player? One kind of unproven player in Gardiner who had a good rookie campaign and one really unproven prospect for Duchene?

And to the guy that brought up Duchene's stats and Gardiner's stats, fine keep Gardiner and have him play centre on the top line since hes obviously better then Duchene. It's not like Duchene was playing injured and was out injured last season.

There is simply no way that Colorado even entertains offers for Duchene while O'Reilly continues without a contract and with Stastny being a UFA at the end of next season.

Never going to happen.

What's going on with his contract. Is it it true he's still in the KHL or did I misread something.

Typical HF post...

take a players worst year to date due to multiple injuries (Duchene) and compare it to a players only/best year (Gardiner).

Duchene and Gardiner aren't even in the same league. Duchene has a almost 70pts season at age 20, Gardiner had a decent rookie year lets wait and see if he progresses or stays the same.

If Toronto wants Duchene, one of Reilly or Kessell needs to be coming back.

That leaves you Anaheim, Carolina and Chicago.

Good luck.

to the bolded part, who is Montreal slotting in at #1c over him? i mean, pleks? galy? lawl. But yeah, i think montreal would be slightly interested if they knew he was on the market...
