Hopefully it's a two way. So he will be there for the Whale and for the Rangers in case there is an injury/ someone craps the bed.

See my avatar? No what team I root for?

Del Zotto is not on Subban's level. Subban is a much better defenseman who puts up similar points on a worse team. Del Zotto is getting better defensively, but doesn't touch Subban. He's a gifted puck mover.

The great thing about this deal is that, if I am not mistaken, by the end, he'll still be an RFA. I like the deal for the Rangers a lot

That's correct. He'll have 5 years of NHL service at the end of this deal, so he'll still be 2 years away from UFA.

Very Happy about this. I knew MDZ wouldn't get anymore than 3 million, Sather ALWAYS plays hardball in these situations and now MDZ will have to earn that big contract. If and when he does, he'll get the money that everyone was speaking of.

Yes, more than possible, but I'm pretty sure you said it in the other thread that he wouldn't make more than Staal or Girardi, because I quoted that post and agreed.

Correct. This is a great deal for the Rangers. We'll have to cross that road when he the deal ends.

Rangers got the short-term discount. If he continues to progress, he'll be looking for a big raise in 2 years.

Huh? Sather is one worst GM's at signing players in the league, he is awsome at trades.

This is the best signing he has ever made.

Sather is actually pretty damn good at resigning RFAs.

Wrong. He's excellent at re-signing his own players.

Staal's on a sweetheart deal. Girardi is on a great deal. Callahan's deal is good value. He always does well with his own guys. It's just big UFA deals he blows.

Staal for 5 years at under 4mil?

He goes crazy by throwing money at UFA's. He isn't like that RFA's.

And yes, he is awesome with trades.

What "crazy" signing has Slats made lately? Gaborik has been awesome and Richards was a no brainer for us as we didnt have a #1 center plus I heard he took less to play here. Slats is also amazing with his own players

Like this signing a lot. Good cap hit for the upcoming years and a bit of a prove yourself type of deal. At worst, a young cheap trade chip on their hands that an acquiring team would still have under control for 3-4 years.

You're being a gigantic uninformed homer right now...

I'm from NYC and a big fan of all NY teams. I live in Montreal and I have to deal with insane amounts of "homerism" all the time. I'm not a Habs fan in the slightest.

They're not on the same level. Subban is the better player, by a fair margin. The point totals actually serve to reinforce this fact. Not opinion... fact. Even DZ himself should be able to recognize and tell you the same

It's not to say DZ can't be as good as Subban. No one knows what will happen. As it stands, it's quite clear who's better and who has more upside and potential.

Considering the nosedive he took after his rookie year, I wouldn't have been comfortable locking Del Zotto up long term at this point (McDonagh yes). I'd rather see him do it two more times and pay an extra million a year to lock him up long term two years from now than have committed to him at this point. I love Del Zotto, but he worries me the most out of the 4 young dmen.
