Is this doofus going to get all the starts in AHL over Hovinen now? Can Hovinen still go back to, say, Finland, and play as a starter in a better league?

Damn, I hadn't thought of that. I hope he doesn't take all Hovinen's starts.

I know it's just one season, but I think Hovinen's projected ceiling is higher than Leighton's, who's an NHL backup at best. It would suck to have him come over only to warm the benches and get an occasional start here and there. I guess we'll see how it plays out, but I don't see how someone who seems to be all buddy-buddy with the Flyers brass and the coaches is going to be a backup in the AHL after getting promoted back to the NHL. I think the only way that happens is if he is horrendous, but he's not bad enough to lose a job of an AHL starter, so I'm not betting on that.

I'm not following the NHL negotiations that closely, though, so maybe not all is going to be lost and order is going to be restored soon. If the chances of that are slim, I'd rather see Hovinen get the hell out.

I don't see why Leightonen would be signed to an AHL contract (unless neither of Hovinen, Munroe and Heeter are up to standard for the Phantoms perhaps). From what I can gather he'd have to sign one of those to play for the Phantoms at least. Same goes for Matt Walker, I'll doubt he'll be back with the Phantoms, they have enough defenders as it is.

I think they would need to waive Leighton for him to play in the AHL.

Thanks for the explanation, I wasn't aware of that. I just quickly skimmed the list of players sent down, and didn't pay enough attention to see Leighton was missing. So I just figured he can be sent down at any time.

RT @howardeskin: #flyers I'm told trying to get G Brian Boucher back as backup goaltender. Have to work out deal with Carolina. Stay tuned.
Why would they do this. I think Boosh is the better backup so I can't imagine a 1 for 1 swap. don't think adding assets of any sort to Leighton in a trade like this is a smart move though unless there are more pieces involved. then again Eskin is a moron and a hack so this could mean absolutely nothing.

RT @AnthonySan37: I'm told the #Flyers have reacquired goalie Brian Boucher from Carolina for Luke Pither. More on this in a bit.
looks like Leighton is not in the Flyers backup plans

its official, more here: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...1#post57517301

How much longer and how much more proof does he need about Bryz?

Leighton has been engaging in a lot of PR lately....saying how much he gets along with Bryz and thinks he's funny etc. Too bad the only thing funny is Leighton STILL trying to convince people he is NHL material..even as a backup.

Of course not, I want to see the flyers win just not Bryzgalov. I would love to see Bryz lose his starting job to ML, Boosh or anyone else early in the season(which could very well happen because they are all around the same calibre goaltender). I want Bryz to lose his starting Job and the flyers ride the season out with someone else, anyone else. I WANT to see the Flyers buyout that atrocious contract of his.

I'm not a fan of Bryz's contract but to say that he is on the same level as Boucher and Leighton is beyond ridiculous. Is he worth the 5.8 or whatever it is? No. But he is way better than either of those two. Leighton doesn't belong in an arena even as a fan and Boucher is a career backup
