Wasn't sure where this should go but listening to the Sens crew on TSN right now and they are giving away a ton of stuff it seems this year for the fans. Any word yet if the Leafs are doing the same?

Non Leafs transactions.

Will become games around the league when season starts.

Redden probably will fall in this same hole.
Wonder how this works? They're still playing him?

Yep.

IMO, worried if he got injured they wouldn't be able to buy-out out in the summer and he's owed another season after this one.

The Carolina Hurricanes are making some moves the day after the official end of the NHL lockout.

The Hurricanes traded goaltender Brian Boucher and defenceman Mark Alt to the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday in exchange for centre Luke Pither. The 36-year-old Boucher has spent most of his 14-year NHL career as a backup. He started eight games last season, losing all but one of them. Alt was drafted by the Hurricanes in 2010. The 21-year-old defenceman had five goals and 17 assists for the Minnesota Golden Gophers last season.

Carolina says Pither will be assigned to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. The 23-year-old centre has 11 goals and 14 assists in 35 games in the ECHL this season.

He's in the same situation as Redden; he gets paid, and his contract counts against the cap but he won't be on the active roster.

Cam Barker to Nucks for 1/700k stings. Would have MUCH rather had him than Mottau just for age alone.... I guess he doesn't wanna play for a perennial loser

EDIT: Ah, guess he really took a tailspin. NVM. Neither are prizes.

As anticipated, the Boston Bruins will suspend goaltender Tim Thomas on Monday, according to general manager Peter Chiarelli.

Thomas informed the Bruins last June that he would sit out the 2012-2013 season to spend more time with his family. Last week, Chiarelli spoke with Thomas' agent, Bill Zito, and was told that the goalie still is going to sit out the season, but wants to play next season, though it was unclear if that meant he would consider returning to the Bruins. "We'll end up suspending him and we want to do it in a non-adversarial way," Chiarelli said. "I've talked to the agent and we'll agree to some type of set of facts and remedies and that'll be it. So he will be on our cap, unless I trade him."

Because the Bruins signed Thomas to a guaranteed contract after the age of 35, he will still count against their salary cap even if he's suspended and the Bruins don't have to pay him.

"With the floor as it is, $44 million for this year, there's probably not the opportunity to move him to a team that needs to get to the floor, so it's a bit of a standstill. He's on our cap and he'll be suspended."

Where was the "flurry of moves" we were promised once the CBA was ratified?

The week isn't done yet but it was probably an overstatement.

It was merely speculation from the media and the fact that they probably wanted fans to get excited to watch their coverage, so that means creating buzz that isn't there.

The only 'big name' player that might get dealt is Luongo. Other than that, I can't see many teams shaking up their respective team just a few days before it all starts.

So at the end of the day, it'll likely be depth players dealt and some minor transactions throughout the week. We've all ready seen 2 minor trades happen.

Trade deadline though, that might be where the flurry of trades will happen.

I wondered the exact same thing. Maybe many GMs are waiting a day or two to see how things look in camp? The media anticipated a lot of movement and its not like they were trying to generate a buzz to get viewers for an all day broadcast either like the trade deadline day.

He's going to take a lot more chances and luck to prove he's not utterly useless. I hope he can turn it around but we don't have the guts to give him a chance IMO.

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Mark Fistric from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Draft. The 26-year-old defenceman appeared in 60 games for the Stars last season, posting two assists with 41 penalty minutes

The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenceman Jim Vandermeer. The 32-year-old has played in 461 NHL games, recording 105 points and 664 penalty minutes

Solid move by Edmonton. If Dubnyk wasn't a flash in the pan, they can actually finish outside of the bottom 10 this year IMO.

If their offense clicks like it has the potential too, they can very well outscore their problems.
