100 degree hockey is attributing Vincour being left off to "lackadaisical play".

I expected more out of him this year in minors, but I don't know if I'd call him lazy. Hmm ... could be a fair accusation though I guess.

They probably just want to show him what the big show is like for a week. Doubt he plays with the team this season.

They want their Steve Ott clone. We didn't take enough penalties last season.

Honestly.. I dont even...
If you're looking for a 4th liner, he definitely deserves to be in the conversation. I know several people have issues with him playing over Austin Smith, but I think he did earn this call up with his play. I do agree though you'd expect him to come up with some competition in Sceviour and Vincour. That's the only surprising thing to me. The fact that he's made Dallas take notice isn't that surprising.

That is his major drawback, but it seems he's been better in that role lately.

Oh gotcha. Don't know the guy at all.

If they wanted his clone then Tousignant would be the best possible option. That guy is ****ing crazy, and will literally say anything he can to throw you off of your game. He takes the punishment as well, took a tomahawk to his head either last season or the season before that. Tons of stitches to attest to his antics. Put Texas on the PP a ton.

Stars recall Jordie Benn from the minors. So they'll have at least one Benn in camp.

Seeing McKenzie talk about teams needing defense, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if Fistric gets traded. He's definitely an Edmonton type of player, and Dillon is definitely NHL ready.

They only need to make a trade if they feel Benn is NHL ready as well, but I'm agreeing with you 100% that I think Fistric goes to EDM via trade or FA at some point.

Seems like a perfect place for him.

Benn is a great guy and all but he just doesn't think the game well enough for the NHL. Our mediocre defense days are over very soon, and adding him into the mix only brings us down a notch. Again.

I agree with that, but doesn't doesn't seem to feel the same way.

I don't buy that he's a long-term Top 6 item. If I was guessing, the way it plays out for Fistric to get traded right now would be Rome winning the Top 6 job, and Dallas deciding they'd rather pay less money for Benn as a 7th than they are Fistric.

Top 6: Daley, Dillon, Goligoski, Larsen, Robidas, Rome

7th D: Benn

Traded: Fistric

Haha .... I listed Top 6 alphabetically to avoid a D pair debate ... still turned out like a reasonable projection for D pairs.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Looking at those names though, Robidas is such a weak link now. Would be really nice to grab a #4 D with some size for a season. We're pretty small and weak at the back right now, and in the west that's just not acceptable at all.

That's unacceptably thin. And if the motive is to save a few pennies it doesn't reflect well on the new ownership.

I doubt a D will be moved until Oleksiak is deemed ready.

Couple days ago I would have agreed. I think the fact that he wasn't one of the call ups means that only happens closer to the trade deadline.

That's perfectly acceptable though.

I`m not very happy with the Stars d-core, it really could cost them a playoffspot. Hopefully they will have real #1 dman in the roster in the coming years.

Unless we find a gem in the draft our 1-2 will be Larsen-Oleksian which will be damn good. Not exactly a pure #1, but still quite awesome.

They almost made the playoffs with the same group minus Souray. The major improvements they've made in the Top 6 and with depth throughout the roster makes me think they've done enough to get over that hump.

At this point, I think the most reasonable move going forward. No need to trade the talented prospects they have to address this issue just yet.

Plus, I think Dillon actually will be an improvement over Souray.

You know ... now that the surprise is wearing off of Vincour not being called up, it occurs to me that Reilly Smith's path to starting in the NHL is now wide open.

Smith's only shot at the NHL at this moment is Top 9. They likely won't play him as a 4th liner IMO with Fiddler.

Morrow and Eakin need a linemate, and I believe with Vincour potentially out of the picture to start the season, R. Smith's two-way play and high end offense make him an excellent option. Plus, we already know Eakin and Smith have ready made chemistry. They play ES, PK, and PP together in Austin. There's no reason they can't be a dynamic 3rd line and PK duo in Dallas.

I wouldn't call Vincour lazy, but he has not looked good in the ahl this season. I was really expecting him to tear it up and take the next step but it hasn't happened. I was at his first game back after his concussion and he looked horrible. They tried playing him on the point and that was not pretty, but he was having problem making simple passes at times.

Roussel has played a lot better than a lot of people on these boards give him credit for in his role, and I think the goal he had friday night had a lot to do with him being recalled. The stars are agitatorless with ott being gone and I'll tell you from watching him, Opposing players don't like him.

Apparently there's a ton of people out at training camp today.

First notes from camp:

Quote:
Mark Stepneski ‏@StarsInsideEdge

Defense pairs to start camp: Goligoski-Robidas; Rome-Daley; Fistric-Larsen; Jordie Benn-Dillon.
I wouldn't get too caught up yet in the starting pairs. Aside from deciding if Dillon makes the team, they have an important decision about Rome and Fistric for a Top 6 spot.

I hope they're letting Faksa serve as a fill in for Benn right now. How cool would that be for a young Czech center ... Jaromir F***ing Jagr on your wing.
