Edler and Clowe. yes please...

i heard Burke asked to be fired. he wasn't going to quit, but was PO'd that his freedom to 'GM' was being reviewed intently.

i seriously thought Snow did just as good a job as Burke, albeit under completely different circumstances.

i never liked Burke, and thought of him as overrated.

The Winnipeg press, have their pitchforks out for Evander Kane again.

3 days before the start of training camp and he hasn't shown up yet.

Winnipeg media scrutiny of Evander Kane reaches new levels of absurdity

From the Sun:

Where’s Evander? It’s a question on the tip of a few tongues around Winnipeg this week. All but four members of the Jets have returned to Winnipeg to skate informally with their teammates, but Evander Kane isn’t one of them.

although it’s believed he will be there on Friday.

Just another chapter in the odd relationship between Evander Kane and the Winnipeg press. Which is of course great news for 29 other teams, eventually …

Man, even most Islander fans have softened on Kabanov already and he's not even a roster player yet!

#KHL head Alex Medvedev says he'll be in NA in February to discuss with #Devils Ilya Kovalchuk's contract buyout to have him back in Russia

If true, this should be interesting for the Devils.

With losing Parise to the Wild and being penalized a 1st first rounder in a deep draft, I can't see NJ being happy with this meddling.

Gomez was told not to report to camp. He is also not allowed to play for any other team/league to avoid injury.

His contract WILL be bought out this summer as per the article on NHL.com

Vancouver signed Cam Barker to a 1 year $700K deal.

How the once mighty (hyped) have fallen.

While I agree that fans have every right to know if one of their star players is at camp or not, the media need to scale it back a bit in Winnipeg and leave the kid alone, because at some point he will ask out.

Edit -- sorry guys..wrong board LOL. Didnt mean to repeat what was already posted.

The only reason I would want him is so Boulton and Finley could hold him down and Nino could take his revenge for ruining his rookie season.

On a serious note Fistric is just as much an NHL regular as Carkner. You would have the Islanders get rid of another pick in the supposidly deep draft for what? What can Fistric give us that someone else here couldnt?

Fistric makes $1.5m. The Isles latest waiver pickup makes $525k.

I agree. I don't know when I've ever seen local media, try to drive young star out of town.

When he did his Vegas tweet, one Winnipeg writer suggested the NHLPA should toss him out.

At some point, kane will say enough already and ask out.

I don't see the Isles moving any of their picks this year, and it is probably the right move.

The team already doesn't have a 2nd due to the ******** trade.
The team is not good enough to compete this year.
The team is not deep enough to compete in a condensed season.

I would rather take Finley on waivers than give up a third for a bottom-pairing dman who is a UFA at year end.

I'm ecstatic we got Martinek back, he is the best defensman added to any team since the lockout ended (DelZotto notwithstanding!)

We take him for granted because he played here for so long, but he's as good as anyone not named Streit.

If Visnovsky's forced to play, the Isles D might be "okay"

At least they're giving him the opportunity to play somewhere rather than sit for the rest of the year and devalue himself even further.

Wade Redden / Scott Gomez

Wade Redden and Scott Gomez have been placed on waivers. Do we go after Redden ? He is still a valuable D man escp to a very weak defensive team like ours...just obviously not at his price. Although redden and Gomez both struggled in big markets under pressure. Do the Islanders pick either up in hopes of rejuvenation in a smaller market with less pressure ? Of course those salaries are just silly but we have endless cap space and if they pass through waivers...Redden will have lots of bidders, Gomez will also but he will be signing a Brad Boyes type of contract. Any thoughts ? If the Isles can take Rolston at 5M why not redden ? He would be much more useful and could even get back to his old ways with less pressure and playing along side Streit and Viz ( when he shows) I think it would help knowing he's not the only one on the blue line being relied on for offense

Stay away. Stay far away.

There's a reason these guys were dumped. They're just not good anymore. You think Redden would have been buried in the minors if he could still play adequately at the NHL level? Think Gomez would have been cut by a wealthy bottom 4 team if he could still score? The fact their performance deteriorated so rapidly, coupled with their age, says volumes. We don't need more aging and declining players. Had enough of that with Pandolfo, Rolston, Reasoner, etc.

If Viz does not end up playing for us, can we honestly say we have 6 defenseman better than Redden...even in his diminished state? I'm not so sure...

1) Redden has another year after this.
2) The Rolston contract at $5m was offset by 2 years of Hunter at $2m per. Plus, they traded him, so the money was a wash.

Basically you're asking someone to sink $10m+ into a guy who hasn't been good in the AHL for years. Make him an offer at $750k for 1 year? Eh, probably not great, but potentially not awful and you can just walk away if it doesn't work out.
