Yay!! As the 7th defenseman it's good to have him back.

This was just a formality as he was skating with the boys. Good to have him back though, hopefully short season means we'll actually get some games from him before he inevitably gets hurt.

It's a body, which is good. Hope he's nothing more than a #7 though. God, I hope Donovan/some prospect steps up this year...

Martinek's good as a bottom-pairing guy if he's healthy. That's a big "if" but it's a good signing. Good shot-blocker.

So right now the defenseman in camp are Streit, MacDonald, Hamonic, Donovan, Martinek, Reinhart, and Wishart. If Vishnovsky comes they are fine, if he doesn't they need to add another top 4 quickly.

Reinhart is clearly not ready from the little I have seen him play, so they still need to add another player. Maybe they should steal an all star from the KHL (kidding). But even with Vishnovsky they are too thin

I hope he can stay healthy for the 48 games.

He's solid when he's healthy and a good guy in the lockerroom.

If Vis comes back the Isles could have a pretty solid d....

Streit-Hamonic
Vis-MacDonald
Carkner-Donavan/Martinek

I wish I could find the video of him from his first season. He was the first star and didn't understand what to do (skate out a few feet, wave to the crowd and head back off the ice). He slowly skated all the way to center ice in a huge circle smiling and waving. Definitely one of the funniest things I've seen in hockey.

Trying to guess what things will look like if Vis doesn't show:

Streit - Hamonic
MacDonald - Martinek/Carkner
Donovan - Carkner/Martinek

...pretty bad on paper. I doubt they'd play two RH together on the bottom pairing w/Marty-Carkner, so assuming one of them will unfortunately be in our top-4. I guess they could swap Streit and A-Mac to balance things out a bit more, but either way this defense looks pretty weak without Visnovsky or any other top-4.

I'm worried that Reinhart will actually outperform some of these guys(Marty, Donovan, Carkner) and earn a spot. IMO he should at least get the rest of the year in the Dub and then come back in '13-14 to fight for a spot. Who knows, though.

Interesting they did not even call up Donovan for camp. Do right now it is
Streit/Hamonic
McDonald/Martinek
Wishart, Carkner, Landry, or Reinhart (no way is he ready)

I think guys like Donovan and Nino are both expected to be considered, but I think I read the Isles know what they have with them and want to get a closer look at some other guys like Landry/Ness/McDonald/etc. to see what they can do in the shortened camp.

I agree that I don't want to see Reinhart this year, but I think he's closer than a lot of people are saying. Most people are basing their opinions on how he looked at the WJC, as a big, below-averaged skating stay-at-home defenseman playing on the bigger International ice. From what I've seen and heard this year, he's been pretty much lights out defensively in Edmonton. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes the Isles question sending him back.

Solid bottom pairing defenseman when healthy and a good guy to have in the organization. I can see him getting a job with the Isles when he retires.

I dunno about the job, his English is horrific. But he is good defensively, and had offensive capability but shoots the puck once every four games.

Oh I know. They should have anticipated that after winning the arbitration case against Vis and getting his assurance that he'd play for them, that he'd tell them 11 days before the start of the season, that he wouldn't join them.

Darn crystal balls just don't work like they should. A waste of money.

Almost as funny as Ziggy kissing Travis...funnier than the ice girl tripping DP with the NYI Flag.

European scout. :-)

Honestly...Radek has just about the worst luck when it comes to injuries. High ankle sprains, concussions, knee injuries, shoulder injuries...the guy has spent a large part of his career injured.

But when he's healthy...he's a guy you can usually depend on to be smart in his own end. Not a flashy guy by any means...he just gets the job done and does it well. He seems to love Long Island too, so I'd love to see the guy finish his career there. For sure, he definitely keeps the Isles trainers alert and busy.
