Yes he was out, would guess Parkes earned his way into the doghouse today. Needs to improve his compete level though and I hope Jurco is getting that message.

For real? They are having a practise game against each other?

EDIT:

Looks like they have. Found that article from MLive.

With Carlo Colaiacovo out you have to think that he's playing the 7th dman spot till he's back. I think that with all of the young dmen coming up in the coming years Lashoff has to show to the Wings brass that he can be that safe 3rd pairing/7th defensive dman guy or he won't be brought back.

Colaiacovo didn't look like he's out (pictures from the practise).

But still, we maybe have homegrown "Brad Stuart" in Lashoff if everthing goes well. Big MAYBE.

Not much chance of Lashoff becoming as good as Brad Stuart.

If he's 8th, assuming no further signings, he'll more likely than not get into games this year. Probably a well-needed camp for him and for the coaching staff.

Have you actually watched him play this season? I mean, he may not be *as good* as Stuart in his prime, but he brings the same type of game -- and does it quite well.

It's just crazy how his brother Matt was a 1st round pick and that didn't carry anywhere. One of the biggest 1st round busts. We sign this younger brother after the 2008 draft as a free agent, and after all these years, it's Brian nearer the NHL-career.

Maybe Brian hits the wall at same point like Matt, but we didn't lose the 1st pick either.

Matt Lashoff has played 74 NHL games. Brian hasn't even sniffed the NHL yet

Actually, Lashoffs play this year makes me think he could one day be good as Brad Stuart was last year.

Yes, I have watched him play.

And while I'd welcome someone who played with some of Stuart's enthusiasm, I don't think Lashoff will be more than a borderline NHLer. I figure he's got two years on the bubble with the Red Wings before the next wave (Ouellet, Marchenko, Backman, Sproul)

Considering Matt is in Europe and old enough for complete bust status, Brian is closer to the NHL

Yeah, that's obvious.

But for example, Vancouver Canucks 8th defenceman has played +20 games per season on average since the lockout. Matt Lashoff's highest amount of games was 18 at one season.

So, on average we can say, highest where M.Lashoff got in his career was to be borderline 8th defencemen in NHL team hierarchy.

If you haven't noticed, Brian Lashoff is at the same position (8th) in our hierarchy right now.

***

These brothers are just so nice two nice examples about how the NHL career can go.

1st round pick --> high expectations --> disappointment for management--> throwing the guy from organizations to other --> insecure feeling --> losing confidence = bad result.
Low profile free agent ---> low expectations ---> steady development --> keeping the guy in same organization --> secure feeling --> gaining confidence = good result. And it didn't even need a pick.

Billins offence has come down to Earth, with better defence.

First 19 games, 1+15=16, -10
Last 17 games, 0+3=3, +7.

Landon Ferraro looks like a special team specialist:

ES-Ferraro: 6+5=11p
PP-Ferraro: 5+6=11p
SH-Ferraro: 3+2=5p

Remarkable point totals at special teams, because ES time is always the major of all situations.

Griffins SH-scoring:

Ferraro 3+2=5p
Sheahan 2+1=3p
Parkes 1+0=1p
Billins 0+1=1p

Griffins PP-scoring:

Nyquist 5+8=13p (.361 per game)
Tatar 6+6=12p (.333)
Smith 3+7=10p (.313)
Ferraro 5+6=11p (.306)
Andersson 2+6=8p (.286)
Billins 1+9=10p (.278)
Paetsch 0+8=8p (.258)
Almqvist 2+3=5p (.152)
Sheahan 4+1=5p (.147)
Pare 2+2=4p (.133)
Hoggan 1+0, Jurco/Lashoff/Aubry/Fournier/Pearce at 0+1.

Jurco equals goalie Pearce in here. Hard start for a rookie, he can do only better.

Ferraro also catches my eye in these Power-play statistics, because he wasn't there almost at all at the first half of the season. He has got the bigger icetime at latest games (because the injuries of Pare and Andersson and Jurco benching) and has been very productive immediately.

Griffins ES scoring:

Nyquist 8+15=23p (.639 per game)
Glendening 3+4=7p (.583)
Tatar 9+11=18p (.556)
Pare 9+7=16p (.533)

Hoggan 4+9=13p (.361)
Andersson 6+3=9p (.321)
Smith 2+8=10p (.313)
Ferraro 6+5=11p (.306)
Sheahan 5+5=10p (.294)
Paetsch 2+7=9p (.290)
Nicastro 1+1=2p (.286)
Raedeke 2+4=6p (.286)
Billins 0+8=8p (.250)
Parkes 2+4=6p (.240)
Jurco 4+4=8p (.235)
Almqvist 1+6=7p (.212)
Nestrasil 0+1=1p (.200)
Callahan 2+4=6p (.194)
Grant 3+4=7p (.194)
Lashoff 2+3=5p (.143)
Aubry 1+3=4p (.121)
Evans 0+2=2p (.056)
Fournier 0+0=0p (.000)

It really shows how Nyquist is the primus motor in this team.

sounds about right. but at least the borderline NHLer on D is now a stuart-type and not another lebda/meech.

Yeah let's not forget Stuart never lived up to his draft status and bounced around the NHL for making lots of boneheaded plays. He only found a home in Detroit because there was no expectation at all for offensive production. Lashoff will be a similar type of stay at home d-man with good mobility and physical play and will PK a bit. No one who actually follows this team expects him to play Stuart's minutes at ES and on the PK but that doesn't change the fact they are used in very similar situations and have similar skill sets. I for one like the fact we have a bigger defensive d-man as our 7th d-man and I hope he gives Jakub Kindl all he can handle for that 6th d-man spot.

Well that's just where we'll have to disagree then.

Nobody expects him to, true, but in my opinion he could get to that point with a season or two of NHL duty.

** Just as a reminder, this is the first season I've actually been able to watch the Griffins, so it's highly likely I'm not going to see eye-to-eye with a lot of people. Any opinions I manufacture are based on research and what I see this year. **

Really a ton of guys in the AHL having to go through waivers right now. Pearce and Pare for the Griffins.
