As long as Calgary is out of the playoffs by the deadline I bet they would jump on that.

I don't see the Bruins so eager to get rid of their top line center going into the playoffs.

Historically we have seen that a player heading into UFA who is the calibre of Iginla has returned a 1st, a middle of the pack prospect, and a young 3rd line type player.

If that wasn't good enough for Calgary then the Bruins should walk away. Iginla is not going to return more than Hossa or Kovalchuk in my opinion, he won't return as much as they did.

too rich for this Bruins fan

At this point, Krejci is a better player than Iginla sadly

Value's there I think, I'd have to think long and hard about it.

If Iginla was 5 years younger, and wasnt a UFA I'd do this.

B's decline

As a flames fan myself I say a big YES!!!

Iggy is basically a rental and there is a good chance he signs back in Calgary again.

Boston would never make that deal though.

I think the value is there as
Iginla + 3rd~Krecji + Knight
Glencross ~ 1st(it will be very late with both Glencross and Iginla on the B's)

I just don't think I would do it as I would want a younger piece the Krecji.

How so? Krejci puts up fewer points, while playing on the most offensively loaded team.

This may not be the best deal for Boston, but it does make sense for Boston to move a centre for a right wing.

You have Seguin, Krejci, Bergeron, Peverley, and Kelly at Centre.

You have Horton and Rolston as natural right wingers.

Are you naive enough to believe that if a contender trades for Iginla that he won't re-up with them?

Could go either way its hard to say as Iggy has character. However if he doesn't sign an extension before the deadline I would trade him and get the best piece possible back.

He also drives the play forward, while Iginla had some of the ********* possession numbers for the last few years. I usually don't care for defensive prowess in point-producing forwards much, but Iginla got destroyed in underlying numbers last year. Part of that is the team he plays on, but it was still pretty bad.

See here, here, and this three part series

Hell no, That package isn't enough to include Glencross, you'd have to add another significant piece.

I think value is there for both teams... Glencross is being forgotten here. Good scorer. Good speed. Good PKer. Very versatile player. I'm sure any trade for Iginla will involve a contract extension going with it too.

Essentially it's:

Iggy (extended) for Krejci & Knight

Glencross for 1st 2013

_________

Bruins deal from a position of strength, and add 2 legit scoring forwards to their wing.

Lucic - Seguin - Hornton
Marchand - Bergeron - Iginla
GlenX - Kelly - Peverley

3 great LW, 3 great C, 3 great RW.

______________________

Now, if Calgary is doing this trade, they are essentially "blowing it up." As valuable as Krejci is, he'll be 27 at seasons end. I'd rather get full value in the form of picks + high end prospects for an Iginla + GlenX package.

Probably not good trading partners. (at least with this package.)

The Bruins won't have cap space to re-sign him, I don't know if it matters if he would be willing or not, it comes down to whether the Bruins wanted to get rid of a player who makes the kind of money Iginla will in order to fit him in, maybe it means they have to get rid or two players. Maybe they have to decide between Iginla or Bergeron and Marchand or something similar. If it came down to something like that it would be so long Jarome.

Boston, as a team, had a much better goal differential. I don't dispute that Iggy is not as defensively minded as he could be. However, Krecji had one of the worst +/-s on his team. I don't know how you can hold him out as some kind of defensive expert.

Iggy remains much more physical than Krecji and capable of scoring far more goals. Even if Iggy has taken a step backwards in his goal scoring ability, he's still much better than Krecji.
