Can see Hickey being claimed. Hard to believe he has to go through waivers now. Seems like just yesterday he was still a great prospect.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

NYI claim Joe Finley off waivers from BUF. No other players claimed from yesterday's waivers.

Okay, I know HFBoards has the "____ will get claimed" joke. But honestly, I don't see how Hickey will pass the waiver wire.

Has Hickey's stock dropped that far? No progression in his game?

caley posted the MacIntyre to Toronto rumor was B.S., here's more confirmation.

Sounds like goalies Brad Thiessen and Jeff Zatkoff and winger Steve MacIntyre made it through waivers unclaimed.

Confirmed that all three players from the Penguins' farm team in Wilkes-Barre made it through waivers unclaimed.

Not dropped just stayed the same more like... He's just stayed constant while everyone else (Martinez, Voinov, Muzzin) have passed him by on the depth chart. He was also a healthy scratch earlier this year in Manchester. So it would seem even guys like Kolomatis, Deslauriers, and Campbell had passed him by...

I thought Hickey got put on waivers yesterday morning, McKenzie seems to indicate it was today, or that was an old tweet.

I don't think anyone will claim him..

That will happen when you have Doughty and Johnson ahead of you I admit he didn't develop like many hoped he would, but he isn't bad at all, just couldn't beat out the Kings' defensive depth. When we drafted him, we only had Johnson. Once Doughty and Voynov beat him for spots, he had no where to go. He would have made the team before Doughty if he didn't have surgery and go out for a year with injury. Just never worked out for him.

I'd say his stock has dropped significantly. Not saying he won't amount to anything, since he's still young, but there's no way he's even close to the value of a 4th overall at this point.

Sounds like a diamond in the rough is on the waiver wire, 23 year old former 4th overall pick. Honestly, if a team needs defensive depth, now's your chance. Potentially be the next Grabner.

I wouldn't mind Philly taking a shot on Hickey....only $700,000 cap hit to see...if he isn't better then Lilja...then waive him.

Maybe teams are staying away from Hickey because he hasn't played a single game in the NHL? Perhaps they're out for a more proven player.

i dunno, but if the isles were gonna pick up a dman from waivers, id have preferred the smaller hickey to the ginormous finley

edit; just looked at contracts, and it seems finley has a year after this one on his at 525k. Hickey is 700k and ufa after this short season. Maybe thats why?

There are probably several teams who would be interested if it weren't a requirement to keep the claimed player on their NHL team. I'd like the Ducks to nab him, but because of the current contracts they have in place, there's really no room for him on their roster except as the 7th d-man. I'd still be happy if they claimed him and let him have the chance to steal a spot.

If Hickey clears, that would speak volumes to his worth to any NHL team.

I think the Islanders need to just take both off waivers. We desperatly need depth on the blueline. Lets see if they can beat someone out for a spot. If niether can put them back on waivers and see if they make it to Bridgeport where we really need depth this season.

Zero NHL games and he's 23, wouldn't be eligible for UFA. I hope Edm grabs him, worth a shot to say the least.

Certainly is. Sure, he hasn't(probably never will) lived up to the position he was picked, but he is still a decent dman. A shame we couldn't find a place for him. As others have noted, If it weren't for Doughty, he would have made the team back in 08'-09'.
