Would love John Erskine he would add some much needed tough play in front of Hank and really balance out the 6 d

Nope. We like Hrivik and Weber is nothing like Aucoin, Sarich, Morris, Klein. We're looking for someone gritty with a bit of size, and a vet most likely.

If Erskine was a righty he'd be a very good fit.

Don't like McBain enough for that trade. He's good, but thus far hasn't proven much more than someone like Stralman.

Defensive 6D? That sounds like Douglas Murray.

We need 3rd/4th line guys, preferably with speed. Must be somewhat sound defensively.

I have a serious question:

Would the Leafs move Komisarek and keep some his cap hit? If so, he may actually fit the bill.....

Depending the how the situation is in TO at trade deadline. Mike Komisarek could be a good addition. When he is playing sheltered minutes at the 6/7 D spot, he can be very effective, as evident in MTL. Tor would have to eat a portion of his salary, but if it nets a 2nd/3rd roud pick, or a semi-decent prospect i could justify the salary compensation. A big bodied rough defensemen are always helpful in the playoffs, and having that depth will be crucial as NYR is poised to go deep in the post-season.

I know of an experienced dman that could fill in for a cap hit of 900k.

We (NYR) could even throw in a 3rd and/or a midlevel prospect and still sign me up!
The perfect fit imo.

Agree w/this conclusion, from the flip side.
Like McBain, not at more than nominal overprice, but issue for me is the potential upside of Skjei.

Can/should we substitute to Anderson +?

Strait and Bortuzzo actually aren't awful despite low prospect grades or whatever else you may read about them. I'd actually keep them over Lovejoy but all 3 are fine as bottom pairing guys. That said, it's a numbers game and one of them very well could land on waivers for NYR or someone else to claim. Most likely it will be Strait or Lovejoy on waivers. Bortuzzo will likely be kept because he's got great size and is a decent skater for being so big. Hard to find guys like that even if the upside isn't overwhelming.

Despres is not a 6th D type and also isn't available so not much need to even discuss that kid.

Steve Staios could have been a good fit too if he hadn't retired.

Brett Crason is available. He would be better suited as a #7 though.

They have enough #7's. Bickel, Eminger and Gilroy are all signed. They need another #4/5.

Won't be available before the deadline, if at all. He's here to play On-Ice Assistant Coach with the kids, and is already handling that job just fine.

Maybe near the deadline, the Avs might be willing to give up Ryan O'Byrne. Big, strong RHD who plays a very good defensive game. Will be UFA after this season, so pricetag is probably reasonable.

Obviously, this depends on how the season is going and whether any of Barrie/Elliott/Gaunce is ready for prime time.
