Draft day: Couturier to MTL for Seth Jones

Let's say on draft day 2013 MTL is holding the 3rd overall spot, and they are coveting a big, 2-way center to compliment Galchenyuk. Mackinnon and Barkov go 1-2, and MTL feels there is no room for both Jones and Subban on their d. They'd like the 2-way presence Couturier brings, amongst other intangibles. I know that the value is there, but does either side make this trade?

I wouldn't trade the chance to get Seth Jones for Couturier.

Flyers certainly don't.

I think Jones is worth quite a bit more than Couturier. Jones will be a number 1 D-man.

All Flyers Fans love Couturier. But giving him up for a chance at Jones? That might be something to consider.

I will say this, If couturier gets more PP time and increased point production in his second year while still playing great D then his trade value will increase greatly. Being able to show that he can produce in the NHL as a two way centerman that could be a teams first line center is more valuable than a Highly regarded D man who has first pairing potential.

Tinordi - Jones
Gorges - Subban
Beauieau - Emelin
Ellis

Price

That tells me that we should just keep Jones if we can get him.

No freaking way for me. I think flyers management sees couturier as something "special"

It reminds me of 2 years after we drafted giroux, all the coaches keep saying "we might have the real deal here"

I'm confident (especially after watching the phantoms this year) that couturier will put up 30-40 points in the condensed schedule, and the following year he will flirt with 80. Watch out for cooter, he's more than a 3C or 2C he's gonna be special.

wow. alot of what ifs there.

but Jones or Couturier.....I'd go with Jones. Couturier getting more icetime, and following a regular progression...he'll be a solid #2 C and could round out into C who can slot in as a #1 in a pinch.

I know MTL is deep at D prospects, but a big, physical puck mover who can play 30 mins a game. This kid has the potential to play a similar style to Pronger. We all know how a player like that can change a team's fortunes.

All that said, I don't see the Habs getting a lotto pick this season...maybe top 10 but I don't think so.

I love Couts, but if this is an option, and Laughton makes the team out if camp this year and plays well, and Schenn steps up this season, I would do couturier for jones.

MTL is going to jettison Kaberle and Markov- why do you think they would go C?

I love Sean, but you simply don't pass on an opportunity at Seth Jones.

With all due respect to Flyers management, this is Seth Jones we're talking about... everyone sees him as something "special".

Seth Jones has all the tools, no tool box. Lacks hockey IQ IMO. Great physical gifts, reminds me of Chris Pronger, minus the intelligence of the game which will hold him back from being a #1. For me Drouin will be the best player of that draft, hockey sense combined with pure skill is always a deadly combination, mini Claude Giroux. Couts thinks the game like a 40 year old vet, with more ice-time and better quality line-mates the rest of the NHL will see what Flyer fans are oozing about.

lol isn't seth jones exactly what philly needs? Why are some flyer fans shrugging this off so quickly? Obviously you dont wanna trade your young guns, but you gotta give to get, and this would make you guys a better team for a long time.

Seth Jones will easily be picked 1st or 2nd and is worth more than Couturier.

I think Jones's lack of hockey sense stems from always being the best player on the teams he plays on.

Whatever team he plays for in the NHL i hope he plays second fiddle to a better more established NHL veteran who he can learn from.

why would anyone trade Seth Jones for Couturier?

Jones has realistic franchise player level potential and would go first overall most years

I like Seth Jones, but I wouldn't trade Couturier for him. Couturier has played a year in the NHL and has shown to be an effective shutdown center plus 13 goals in his rookie year as a fourth liner is nothing to sneeze at. Seth Jones could be another Pronger or Doughty or he could be another Bouwmeester or Erik Johnson. Defensemen are so hard to judge that you might get the best one in round two as opposed the 2nd overall pick.
