i really dont see why we wouldnt pick up hickey. He was a #4 pick, is only 23, but he is only 5' 10". Its worth it for one year at 700k though. I take a shot, without even thinking, on him over finley. I dont know the logic behind finley except that he is big.

Boulton is a good 13th forward who can dress when he's needed.

Finley seems like a reactionary move with the Visnovsky situation, but I don't mind another big guy to throw down and protect our skilled players - who are mostly still kids themselves.
Sounds like some of the alumni might have gotten to Wang and explained to him that this franchise will never be treated like a princess franchise playing so close to Manhatten. Wangs envisioned model of eliminating fighting and playing sod

I don't really see this guy getting the green light to drop the gloved too often. Many teams would probably be chomping at the bits to shorten up a defense that already lacking. In that regard he could probably draw a few instigators if he plays simple clear the crease/ first rebound brand of hockey.

While I wake up to about 10 transactions, with Philly getting better, the Islanders claim Joe Finley.

This organization has zero desire to win hockey games.

Not saying we won't win games because of maturation of our young guys, but how is it that our ****ing GM can't make ONE SINGLE SOLITARY trade that improves this team with an NHL hockey caliber player coming back?

Visnovsky doesn't count because that was a cap circumvention trade. Period.

While Hickey may still develop over time, we already have enough Islanders on this list --> http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...-years/page/24

It takes two to make a trade...this isn't NHL 13.

I understand that, but it can't be excuses every single year. I mean, at some point, a GM has to make trades.

Stop holding onto guys like Neilsen and Okposo and acting like these two will suddenly turn into something their not.

That's all. Milbury used to suck at life, but at least he took risks. I'm so tired of Garth holding onto these young guys like we have the best young players in the league. Aside from Tavares, any player on this roster is touchable. Improve the god damn team, Garth.

He acquired Vishnovsky, that didn't go so well for us although Vis is exactly what we need: an impact top-4 D on a short term contract

Former 1st round pick. 25 years old. A whopping 6'8, 249 lbs. Anyone got a scouting report on this guy?
Yeah...He's big.

Something interesting from the Isles Bio on Finley:

Finley, 25, has appeared in 36 American Hockey League games this season with the Rochester Americans, scoring five points (one goal, four assists) with a plus-3 rating. The Edina, MN, native has appeared in five career National Hockey League games, all with Buffalo in 2011-12.

The Washington Capitals selected Finley in the first round (27th overall) of the 2005 NHL Draft. In 101 career AHL games with the Hershey Bears and Rochester, the 68, 249-pound defenseman has totaled 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) with 246 penalty minutes and a plus-12 rating.

Finley played four years at the University of North Dakota, highlighted by a National Championship in 2006. In 150 career games in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, Finley totaled 35 points (seven goals, 28 assists) with 297 penalty minutes and a plus-61 rating.

Maybe it isn't important, but even with his lack of skating speed, he has managed to consistently be a positive +/- player. That would be welcome on the Isled D line.

Yeah, a good player two years ago. He's still a big question mark. All I'm saying is that I love this team, and I'm waiting for our management to love it as much as we do.

It's only a matter of time before Finley is getting PP time, just parking himself infront of the net.

Jurcina was also part of the Mark Eaton OT winner vs the Sens IIRC.

He was in the Washington organization for a while and I got to see him play a good bit when he was with the Bears a few years back. Yes, he is huge. Definitely not afraid to drop the gloves. And one thing about him that really stood out to me is that he has an absolute BOMB of a slapshot.

He can throw big hits when he gets them lined up right, but his biggest downfall is he is not very mobile. He would tend to play right on the blue line so as not to get burned skating back into the d-zone. Could be a #6 or #7 defenseman for us but I think he's more suited for Bridgeport than anything.
