so your motivation behind it is imaginary points that only you know about?

Good signing. Shore up the D now rather than possibly scramble later.

I think yesterday someone said that the Nucks should've gotten Vandermeer instead of Barker. Well... how about both?

Vandermeer really slowed down last year.

Difference is we thought Barker was a top 4 and Vandy would be a solid everday bottom pairing guy. You use these guys as #6/7 you'll have no issues.

GMMG probably wants as few players playing through injuries in this condensed season, so that the blueline is as healthy as possible if they make the playoffs.

This much depth, even if Barker and Vandermeer are given limited, sheltered minutes, allows AV to take players out for a game or two to avoid aggravating or worsening pulls, muscle tweaks, etc.

I'm surprised we haven't picked him up yet. He and Burrows have excellent chemistry.

They're like the twins. Campoli knows where Burrows is without even looking.

This^

Also.
As for JVD being a "depth" signing, alright, I guess. As long as you a, have zero depth in your org and b, plan on signing several other cast offs to also fill in your enormous lack of d.

JVD if healthy (if) could maybe be a #7 guy on a team that lacks D depth, I just thought that the Canucks where better off than having to reach so far to address its needs.

Top 6 is set.
Andrew Alberts is #7. So adding Vandermeer and Barker at 8/9 makes good sense.

More AHL depth for call up duty. Same as Barker. Smart moves shoring up fill ins now while there are plenty on the market instead of scrambling at the trade deadline. Good insurance policy.

And I'm not referring to Luongo.

He was a pretty solid #5 for the Oilers 2 years ago and was very under appreciated. Solid depth pick up for the Nucks
