The Dallas Stars announced today that they have acquired Edmonton's third-round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for defenseman Mark Fistric.

Fistric, 26, has spent the last five seasons with the Dallas Stars, skating in 257 career NHL games and has earned 23 points (3G-20A) with 220 penalty minutes in that span. The 6-foot-3, 231-pound defenseman, led all Dallas defensemen with 235 hits last season and ranked third on the team with 105 blocked shots.

Not surprised.
They love Dillion and Oleksiak anyways.

Surely could've gotten more than a 3rd?

Think we all knew Edmonton was the logical choice to trade Fistric. Best of luck to him.

I liked Fistric more than most fans but the writing was on the wall and its a decent return. Hope he can step up on Edmonton and be a significant player for them.

I liked the guy. One of the few players that would get physical on the team. Hope he does well.

Edmonton fan here..

What do you guys think of Fistric, and the trade?

Seems like we didn't give enough up for this guy.

I think a 3rd is about right... His only real talent was his affinity for hitting others.

Thought we might get a little more back but not much. I will miss the amazing hits and his unusually large head/wide face.

It's a decent return not great but not horrible. It was inevitable that he'd go so I'm not surprised but didn't think it would happen this soon. Figured it would happen at trade deadline.

I never understood the hate for fistric from the organization. Who on this team can actually play physical defense now? Daley and larsen are slightly above average defensively (at best) and the rest of them are pretty suspect. Seems like he subtracted from an already undersized blueline.

I would have traded robidas personally... Can't even hold his own in europe

Someone else has to want him though. We're stuck with Robi until he retires.

The Stars had one of the worst defenses in the entire league last year -- maybe the worst, and Fistric was scratched frequently and never was given many minutes when he did play.

You acquired a guy who may not have even made the team.

The upside for you is that he does try his heart out. He'll go out of his way to be physical.

I don't think the Stars organization has really valued physicality from defensemen that much in recent years.

honestly I'm just glad we shipped him off for any return.

If Nick Grossman was worth a low 2nd rounder from Philly, You guys are upset with a high 3rd rounder from Edmonton for Fistric? The guy has had most of 4 years to proove he could be trusted to take the defensive minutes but every single year he ended up playing the most sheltered minutes on the team (and not really doing much with them). I mean you're just not going to get much for the 7th or 8th best man on the blueline.

Could've gotten more for Grossman(n) imo too.

I'm just worried about situations where they have to be physical. Who is gonna clear the crease on the pk? Good thing holmstrom retired because he wouldve scored 15 goals against us alone

Keep in mind that 2nd was from LA, which was in the mid 40's most of the season, until they decided to go screw things up and win the Stanley Cup.

A 3rd isn't impressive but Edmonton's 2nd is likely to be too high to make it work trading for Fistric. My guess is Joe hopes they implode and that it's a high 3rd, like the 62nd pick or so.

what a first round pick? for a guy that couldn't make a clean pass out of his own end? I don't know about that.

Either way, if I count this right, Dallas now has 3 3rd round picks for 2013 (Edmonton, Philadelphia, and Dallas) plus an extra 5th from Florida.

B. Dillion will. He is the same style of player, but with more of an offensive upside I believe. I am excited to see him in the NHL from watching him in the ahl for so long.

A 3rd round pick is about what I expected out of Fistric.
