Don't get me wrong - I would love to see him succeed, but the realist in me knows that it just isn't going to work.

Tangradi is like groundhogs day around here... every year folks get excited and pencil him into a top-6 role before he's ready, then they act surprised when he doesn't succeed and gets demoted back to the 4th line / WBS.

He seems like a great kid so it's tough to see him not succeed, but it's a production oriented business and I question whether Tangradi has the tools to be successful in the NHL.
I don't know if I read it wrong, but in the past, and even this year when I saw him in WBS, i always questioned his compete level. But he really doesn't seem to win the puck battles that a big guy should. When another big guy lays some lumber on him he seems to go down rather easily. You throw a puck in the corner and send TK and ET at it, TK comes away with that battle 99/100.

He absolutely is skating better this year then last, he just doesn't play like a 6'4" guy. The intriguing factor is that if he can change and play like the big guy.

He should watch this clip over and over...

Play like the big guy!!!

I just don't want to ultimately lose Jeffery because of this. Jeffery was looking pretty promising just before he injured his knee and ultimately looks to me as the player who can offer the most.

2nd pp unit : Nisky, Martin on points, Kennedy Sutter and Dupuis up front.

I'd throw Tangradi in there instead of Dupuis.

Neal at the point of pp? Definitely didn't see that coming
Geno and Neal are the only two players who are threats to score from the right/center point. Geno and Neal feeding each other like Geno and Gonch used to makes sense in theory.

Interesting PP set up. Still think Neal gets taken off if we acquire a RHS.

Yeah I thought so. I would have been happy with him. Seems like an odd move for Dallas but I'm not overly familiar with their d prospects.

Fascinating that the Pens only player who has shown any real aptitude as a PP net front presence actually isn't on either PP unit.

ugh DB at it again. That makes zero sense. Hell, Bylsma even said yday that Tangradi would look good in front of the net on the 2nd PP. I won't read much into it yet.

That 2nd PP unit looks like a disaster already. But i guess they will only get 15-20 seconds so it shouldnt matter too much

I gave up on Bylsma last season. In all honestly I believe that this is his last year as head coach. That powerplay configuration is just pure brutality.

Jagr and Mario didn't play on the same powerplay very often when the Penguins were winning back to back cups and winning Presidents' Trophies-even though they played opposite sides of the ice. Successful powerplays come at you in waves. Sullivan gone, this is going to be a mid-level powerplay. You can have your qb at the point play an extended shift but having the first unit out there for 1:30 each shift will once again insure that the Pens only have the first 45 seconds or so in which to score a goal for every powerplay.

I know we haven't played a game yet, but on what planet is that configuration a good idea?

good deal for oilers
Dallas has to be the softest team in the NHL, they needed more grit.

One of the downsides being a pens fan are that we are a pretty complete team. I go every free agency/start of the season/deadline hoping for moves, but they seldom happens

Still think we should ship awya at least 1 defenseman, they are pretty wanted right now and we have too many, so why not get something for one of them?

You know it will....

No clue why DB refuses to utilize the assets he has instead of going all in on a select few.

Our PP was 5th in the league last year. But yes, Bylsma will get fired because he didn't put Tangradi on the second unit.

The Tangradi Cult on these boards is just unreal sometimes.

Guys, it's the 2nd day of a 6 day training camp. Bylsma is going to change up the lines and units. Today's lines and units might not be what they start the season with if he experiments enough to get something he likes. If he liked today's units over different ones he's going to try over the next 4 days, then that will be our lineup.

Martin and Dupuis have no business on a PP unit. Especially when there are better options. Same old ****.

if they aren't sure Despres will stick with the team, Martin is the best option we have there

And yet, Sid was taken off the first PP unit in game 2 last year, the team scored a few goals, and people still lost their minds.

It is not purely that. It is a lack of reconizing where a player fits.

We shall see

Disagree Ogre...Martin is terrible on the PP. No creativity, bad pinches at the wall leading to odd-mans the other way, and his shot can't break a wet paper bag.

I'd rather have Engelland there if Despres doesn't make the team. At least he has a good shot, and he always finds a lane to get it through to the net.
