They weren't kidding that teams need D.

2 trades and a guy claimed off waivers; all d-men.

Smart trade for the Oilers. Can't believe Fistric was given up so cheap.

Good pick up for Edmonton. Been a fan of Fistric since his Giants days. Really nice guy.

I've always liked Fistric and this is a good trade for the Oilers.

Yes no seeing Peckham anymore, woo! Stabilizes the bottom defense pairing and adds a lot of grit

Take it from me, Fistric is worthless. This is a guy who couldn't consistently beat out the likes of Jeff Woywitka and Adam Pardy for ice time. Joe performed some kind of Jedi mind trick to get a 3rd for him.

Numbers game claims Fistric in Big D.

Goligoski, Robidas, Daley, Larsen, Dillon, Jordie Benn, and Rome makes 7.

Looking forward to seeing him lay some huge hits on HNIC.

I'm sorta baffled by this one on Dallas' end, I understand the need to move a defenceman to make room for upcoming players, but I don't understand why Dallas continues to get softer and softer. Look at all the guys they've moved out since last season: Sheldon Souray, Adam Pardy, Steve Ott, Mark Fistric, all tough cantankerous guys. I always used to hate when Edmonton would play Dallas because not only would they lose, but they'd get bullied, knocked around and usually leave with an extra injury or two. I don't know if that's going to continue.

The oilers need depth, this is a good deal for Edmonton. I don't think anyone is thinking he'll be top 4...

This year yes, next year no. You'll see Dillon jump this year and he'll surprise some people. And then you have Oleksiak next year along with (maybe) Nemeth. We'll be fine.

Great move by the oil. I am surprised that it was a 3rd. I would have thought that Dallas could have gotten more for him. As previous posters said, this is a classy move by GMJN to send him to Edmonton.

Fistric isn't too much of an upgrade over Peckham. He had one great season in 2009 I think, but has been extremely poor before and after that year. He hasn't played a full schedule either, besides that one good year.

Dillon is far from soft.

Both teams should do well with this.
It's not like we were a cap-ceiling team. He was only drawing $1.475m in salary.

I just had a look at the Dallas defense. Wow that is really thin. I am not 100% up to date on some of the younger guys though. What do Dallas fans think of some of the young guys coming up?

Yes, because for a team with a current cap-hit of $53m- a number not too far from the cap-floor- getting rid of $1.475m in salary was a major accomplishment in the pursuit of extending Jamie Benn.

Love Fistric, enjoy him Edmonton. Going to miss his thundering hits.

This makes room from Brandon Dillon to make the jump to the NHL, while allowing Rome or Jordie Benn to play as our #7 where they belong.
