You can never prove a negative argument in history. No one can prove Abe Lincoln wasn't a pimp, but you can prove he was president of the United States. Even after the fact, there will be no proof that Edler doesn't want to sign.

As for Barker and now Vandermeer, depth is great if the kids aren't ready to step up. Corrado, Connauton, Sauve and Tanev at camp, these two new guys, and our 5 top 4 defenders should equate into some solid, solid depth for any need.

I have no delusions about either new signing, both are one trick ponies in the NHL, but point is, if we need that dimension due to injuries or a roster shake up, we have it. This is no different then having guys like Parent here in the past.

It is going to be a very hard 48 games, there is no need to beat our D to death before the playoffs. It's like some of you are so brand new to hockey you don't seem to realize players get banged up.

Ah, but if their internal defenseman salary is 4.6, and Edler wants more, doesn't that create a problem for the upcoming summer?

Actually, Canucks 'Internal defenceman salary' might not exist, as Bieksa's last contract saw him being paid a $7mil salary and $4.5mil bonus in year one, and they were apparently willing to pay Weber a mountain of cash, but the question is if Edler is still 'asking for too much', given that he has back problems, has looked shaky at times in his own end and hasn't taken on a top-pairing role as of yet.

Wait 'n see i guess. Every upcoming UFA gets speculated about, guaranteed.

Flames fan here. I'm sure it's been said before, but VAN has a history of injuries on the blueline. Don't expect this year to be any different, for ANY team. Expect lotttssss of injuries around the league this year. This is a good depth signing. Vandermeer was liked during his tenure on the Flames, he became a bit of whipping boy because of his lack of speed, but the guy is force out there. I remember him joining the front of the net scrums and just stare down guys hahaha. He's a beast. Good signing IMO.

Good post.

We already have a few groin issues in camp this year, I think there will be a lot of injuries with the compressed schedule.

The team hired a hypnotist who after a few sessions with Vandermeer will turn him into a right-hander.

Every injury will have a bigger effect in this shortened season. Better to stock up on FAs than pay later in a trade

On that note, there will likely be no Luongo trade this season.

Suppose Schneider pulls a groin after Luongo's gone. Goodbye season? (Vandermeer and Barker certainly won't save it.)

I don't know if you're being sarcastic but there are quite a few people in Vancouver who are thinking that way... They also worry that Schneider won't be able to maintain his all-world play with the added workload.

But does he REALLY want to? Does he REALLY want to? You sit and ponder that. And I hope no indecision creeps into your head. I really wouldn't want that to happen to you or to any other Canucks fans.

Does he REALLY not want to ? Does he REALLY not want to ?

Either way it'd be speculation whether he does or doesn't, so it shouldn't be something to consider.

So let's just look at what we do know and that is it's more probable statistically and logically that he'll re-sign.
