This burn it to the ground rebuild model that this forum sees as the only method to rebuild is ridiculous.

Poor business decision, the guy is a beast, but the Flames are not in the upper class of the West and when a guy is near the end of his career get something for him because sooner than later he will not be worth as much as he is today.

Trade him for a prospect and a pick.

This kills any chance of a decent rebuild the Flames had. It is going to be a long long time to get that team fixed. They are an older group that has very minimal when it comes to high end prospects.

The odd thing is that Sundin hurt, not helped his legacy by staying.

Good for Iggy, good for the Flames, bad for the fans that want to rebuild.

Vintage HF thinking you need to completely destroy your team and tank for a good team.

I'm beyond excited that Jarome is going to resign, absolute beauty.

That's fine then, if that case then it tells me he isn't very interested in winning a cup, and if that's the case then I don't want him. I want guys that all they want is a cup

He could always go to another team as a rental, make a run, leave as a UFA and then re-sign as a Flame. It would help his team to be able to deal him as a rental for a few months.

As a Rangers fan that had to suffer through Leetch leaving, I hope for Calgary's sake it isn't the same.

Why would he want to be traded to the Canucks if he wants a cup?

Jarome has earned the right to finish his career in Calgary. Would be nice to see him get a ring, but he's one of the true good guys of the game and whatever he wants to do is fine by me. And who knows maybe he seriously thinks he can help the Flames make a run.

I don't blame Jarome for wanting to stay where he's most comfortable.

Maybe he gets traded and then just signs back with Calgary that summer.

If he does move on to win a cup, i'm not sure which team would be the one. Rangers? Edmonton? Carolina? Pittsburgh? LA? Tampa?

Do you trust that Feaster can pull off amazing trades, sign elite FA's and draft well in the 15 to 20's to eliminate the need for a complete rebuild.

Pitts, him and Sid would be deadly and Pitts has some good prospects

I would say yes. I would argue that Jarome's entire career was in Calgary.

Better off getting assets. Guy still doesnt get it.

I would be miserable if the Wings ended up doing what Calgary is doing. Trying to win with a roster that doesnt have what it takes to win. Unfortunately Ken Holland might be going down that road.

Better a quick death than a slow one.

LOL.

Did any of you guys watch the World Juniors? How many Flames prospects lit it up in that tournament?

The Flames "rebuild" is going just fine. The Flames do not need to trade Iggy for a late first for the sake of tanking.

Shame he'll never win a cup if this is true, but he's still a HOFer for sure.

This is the difference between running the team for entertainment (i.e. as a business) and doing whatever it takes to win.

It would make sense from a hockey perspective for Calgary to trade Iginla to a cup contender to receive some assets for him. Unless they get some major random breakout players, Calgary won't be competitive until Iginla retires.
