Then he went on to talk about Martin not being the same offensive player after the shoulder injury. Except Martin was never really that great of an offensive player in the first place.
He always does. He is Rossi-lite and coming up hard on the #1 spot for head D-bag.

good deal for oilers
That's a real good deal for the Oilers. I would have given up a 3rd for Fistric, I think. He's a guy we're missing in our defensive corps. That being said, he'd just be another guy who is sort of on that bubble when our defensemen start to develop.

Because of Fistric's style of play, he's hurt a lot. He averages around 60 games a season. So he might be around 36 games this year, maybe even less with the condensed schedule.

He's never played more than 16:30 (avg). Where do you put him in the lineup? If he can't play 18-20, he's on the 3rd pairing. Then what do you do with Engelland? I don't see a place for both in the lineup.

Engelland fits a very rare role. He's a very good fighter and also a defenseman.

Fistric is a bottom pairing guy that's been in and out of the lineup in Dallas despite their defense not being that great. He runs around and makes big hits but also makes lots of mistakes. He's sort of a poor man's Brooks Orpik. I think we already have a poor man's Orpik and/or Fistric in Engelland.

I'd love another big physical D but we need one that can handle top 4 duty.

A real poor man's Orpik, because he's a total plodder and beyond useless the puck. Yes, even compared to Orpik.

I agree with this. We need a Regehr or Murray type.

Deryk Engelland > Matt Carkner.

The Trib happened to him.

And the advent of social media, IMO... which has led journalists (particularly sports journalist) to play it pretty free and loose with the facts in order to get the story out first. It also give them a jillion times more potential sources for rumors that they can rush to publish as supporting "facts" in articles.

I think it's mostly the transition from reporter to columnist. That's just my observation, though.

Proposal I just put up on the rumors & trade boards:

San Jose: Simon Després, Tyler Kennedy, Ben Lovejoy, 2nd round pick

Pittsburgh: Ryane Clowe, Douglas Murray, 3rd round pick

Thoughts???

Sharks fans will likely balk at the offer and say they don't need TK or a defensive prospect.

No one wants Lovejoy.

Bylsma just on NHL Network. He said that we could see some of Sutter on a line with Geno and Neal, specifically when there are faceoffs in the right dot.

See... some may disagree... but I like it. Much more than any current alternative, really.

I'm not taking the lines that occur in the shoot-out seriously. I'll wait until 1st night.

I absolutely hate it. Malkin made big strides on faceoffs last season and the only way to improve is by taking a lot of them. There was a reason that he improved last year when he took a lot more than before . Crosby and Staal improved on faceoffs while taking a lot of them. Not letting geno take faceoffs does much more harm than good in the long run.
