yet they're waiving Ty Wishart? What's his story, wasn't he supposed to be really good?

Hoping the Oil pick up Hickey. If it works out, cool a free d-man. If not then just toss him back on waivers or hope he clears to OKC.

Many Kings fans are really high on the guy still. Having seen him play(not as much this year), I think he still has some work to do to be a every day NHL defenseman. Is he a bust? that debate will rage on. I dont think hes a bust. yet.
Will he be claimed? I doubt it. Many teams have their rosters set or have young defenseman like Hickey in their system they could just call up instead.

No he isn't. Despite being a former 1st round pick and a big body he has failed to live up to expectations and plays soft and makes mistakes. Wishart being waived today doesn't mean he's necessarily going back to AHL but I think there's something in the rules that requires him to be waived in case they want to send him down (which they will)

and where do the Oilers slot this 5'11, 180lbs LD?
EDM needs a 2hits\game shutdown Dman.. not Hickey.

Hope the Ducks claim Hickey and use him as a 7th d-man. Rotate him in every few games and hopefully he impresses enough that you can get rid of Souray's stupid contract or get some value for Lydman. Hickey could play his way into being a regular or a decent trade chip, and claiming him would be a good way to stick it to your rival next door.

Hickeys game has improved allot over the past two seasons and while I hope he goes unclaimed so that he can be on our roster next season I think that he is NHL ready today and another team will pick him up. He is a steady smooth skating PMD type who has learned to play within himself. His game is more suited to being a sort of mobile two way #5/6 guy but I still see him developing into a second pairing dman in a couple of seasons.

Not likely to become a great player but should continue to develop into a good one. Certainly worth picking up when you look around what a few other teams have going. Hickey can play, his injuries right after his draft year held him back and then once he got healthy we were so deep that he has had to claw his way up and as things sit today he is unfortunately a redundant piece in a ridiculously deep Kings franchise (where Dmen are concerned).

I still like the idea of taking a flyer on him, if only for his draft position. Kind of like Barker last year. Except Hickey would be better I think.

Like Petro Points said Oilers needed another shut down d man and I like the addition of Fistric. I still want the Oilers to claim though because if Hickey actually clears I'll be shocked.

With Fistric and the Oilers calling up Fedun, it's unlikely they claim Hickey now. I still would've liked to see him get a shot. And if he's a bust he goes back to Manchester.

I still don't see him clearing. A team will take a shot at a former #4OVR.

Like most everyone else, would be completely shocked if Hickey clears waivers. Someone will snap him up.

I'm surprised he had to clear waivers. Was it only because he was recalled for training camp or do all waiver eligible players have to clear regardless of whether they've spent the season so far in the AHL?

caley, if it's not too much trouble, could we get the OP updated with the waivers after the new CBA was signed?

It's actually funny you say that because Hickey really isn't a PMD anymore. Now, he's a smart defenseman who uses his hockey IQ to help him and he's actually become more physical too. I look at him possibly replacing Scuderi at some point soon.

Also, to point out, it appears PL3 HAS signed a contract with the Ducks, as he is on waivers today. He was on a tryout.

Which Ls are represented in PLL? Luc? or Letourneau?

I should've just said PL3 to make it clearer. But yeah, you know who I'm talking about.

If I were a team that had low expectations this year, I'd be claiming Hickey, Hamill and Cliche and then just hope one of them pans out to close their original potential.

3 spots on the reserve list in quite a commitment for just potential.

Very true, and there are only a handful of teams that it would be reasonable for. But those 3 are at worst good or very good AHL players. There is not a risk of being a waste of one of fifty spots but you're right that all 3 to 1 team isn't realistic. Might as well hurt the defending champs and take 2 call ups away from them.
