What is the best skate sharpening cut for a kid

does weight factor into the cut?

for a kid whos 75 pounds, what type of cut may be the best, I was told 5/8 or 3/8.

I noticed his edges are not as good as they used to be on tight turns the skates seem to hold and skip a little, and he seems to fall more. I think the guy who does the sharpening now does 1/2.

Thanks for the replies

Heavier should look at shallower and lighter should look at regular or deeper. Forget 3/8ths, that's really sharp. 5/8 or 1/2 should be fine. The problem might not even be the type of cut.

Well 3/8 and 5/8 are 2 completely different things... one is going to make them feel far sharper and the other less so.

If you're saying he's skipping I would definitely go to 5/8... that's not a case of the blade not being sharp enough, it's a case of the hollow being too narrow for his skating ability, body size etc. 5/8 should get rid of that and allow for more glide on the ice with less friction.

It's easier for kids to learn on shallower cuts. Especially stopping. I recommend 5/8" for kids as well as brand-new grown-up skaters (even shallower if you are bigger).
