I'm on ATL's bandwagon. I don't really dislike much about their team, and I've always been a gigantic fan of Tony Gonzalez. He stuck by a **** team for a really long time, and was fiercely loyal to them.
I marvel at guys like Wilson and Kaepernick...especially Kaepernick. The guy had talent, but he played in a system in college that is not conducive to producing NFL QB's. I love how the guy runs. Every stride he takes covers 5 yards, it seems. If you don't plan on keeping him in the pocket, he will kill you. He's also fixed some of his mechanical issues since leaving college. His release is a lot quicker. If he can continue to develop mentally and continue working on his mechanics, I think he has the tools to be a premier passer in this league. He can just kill you so many ways.
It seems more and more often, young QB's are able to come into the NFL and take an offense over.
Yeah, it's scary what those young QBs can do for next decade.
It used to be "spread QBs can't play in NFL" few years ago but now I'm seeing more of them in NFL. They use read option plays a lot for mobile QBs like Newton, RG3, Wilson, Kaepernick. One day, strictly pocket passers will be a thing of the past.
IMO, Russell Wilson should be the rookie of the year. He impressed me more than other rookie QBs this season. I thought he'll be a career backup in NFL.
The FU to Dejan is almost better than the fact that we will not be deprived of the Karstens-face.
My guess is that this was the fallback plan, and no Liriano/Marcum. Please cue in the conspiracy theorists, who previously hated the Liriano move, so that they can inform us about the grand scheme to just dump a bunch of Hanrahan money for nothing. Karstens was probably even in on it!
I'm still hopeful, probably naively, that Liriano is going to be healthy and still possible. The budget should still fit him in, and McPherson can wait.
ADD: By the way:
And trust me, this won’t be one of those where the pitcher agrees to come back at a lower rate. He’s out of here.

Haha, what a ****ing hack. I think Molinari is the only sportswriter worth a damn left in this town.
I like the idea of signing marcum. In spite of his slow fastball he's been a consistent performer.
But I wouldn't be surprised if the Pirates are using this to get Liriano to come down in price and I also wouldn't be surprised if this is just an attempt on Neil's part to look like he's not incompetent.

That sites rankings look way off to me but I'm not an expert.

Marcum would be a solid addition. I think ideally the Pirates would like to get Liriano on a cheaper deal...if he won't take less then whatever, go for Marcum. It's a non-pitching arm injury, but it's pretty obvious that his value goes down on the open market with a pre-existing injury.
I think Karstens will be in the same position he has been most of his time in Pittsburgh - the unsexy (in more ways than one) swingman starter/reliever who winds up starting more often than not. Having extra starters is hugely important in this sport and ideally we'd be entering the season with 7 guys capable of being at least a #5 starter right now, and that doesn't include guys like Cole and Oliver, who could find their way in the rotation later this season.
As for Kovacevic...man...remember when he was awesome? He's almost unreadable nowadays.

I'll be ecstatic if that came true but it's not going to happen.
Allen is a late first rounder, maybe early second rounder. Some consider him a best receiver in this draft. Hard to believe if there won't be a receiver in first round.
We might have a shot with Jesse Williams in second round. He's a good run stuffer but not much of pass rusher which is fine for a nose tackle.
I think Lacy will go earlier than expected maybe in second round. He had great games in SEC championship and national championship.
With Wallace and Mendenhall likely gone, and Miller recovering from torn ligaments, the Steelers need to be more focused on drafting offense than defense. If these playoffs have shown anything, it's that you need to score points. RB, TE, and a tall WR should be a priority coming out of this draft. The Steelers defense doesn't have to be #1 in yards allowed.
The guys I like get no hype at all, which I guess is a good thing. Pugh-OT-Syracuse, Trufant-CB-Washington, Amerson-CB-NCSU, Williams-S-UGA.
I like Amerson. He got rare combination for corner - size, speed and ball skills. He struggled a bit this season and his stock has fallen. I remember he was projected to be top 10 pick before the season started.
