I agree with this. I think he's one of those players that will play better in the NHL than in the AHL. Would be nice if they found space for him and Morin. Morin has earned his roster spot IMO.

Agreed on the first part. Saad is a very smart player and he plays to the talent of his linemates. I really do see him being the perfect third wheel for Toews-Kane/Sharp-Hossa.

As for Morin, the only thing that holds him back is skating and conditioning. He really seems to wear down as games go on.

While it is hard to take Carruth's numbers 100% seriously, because he is an overager, it is worth noting that his stats are significantly better than any of his previous seasons in the WHL and he's always played behind a strong Portland team.

I still like Simpson more than Carruth.. but I don't see either being anything more than back-ups in the NHL. Despite the numbers, it's Brandon Whitney that, at this point, is Chicago's best chance at developing a goalie IMO.

In other CHL news:

- Phillip Danault had an assist in his debut with Moncton, a 5-3 win.
- McNeill has a goal and an assist at the end of the secon period for PA.
- Garret Ross has 2 goals, 1 assist as Saginaw is about to beat the Knights, up 4-2 with under a minute to play. Alex Broadhurst has a goal for London.

Brandon ****ing Saad wants to be up with the big boys. Had an assist on the game-tying goal, and just scored the OT winner. Give him 6 points in his last 2 games. Morin also scored, Clendening had an assist.

Vince Hinostroza tallied 7pts in 2 games this weekend. This season he has 43pts (19g+24a) in 29 games.

Chris Calnan's stats in the EJHL - 37pts (20g+17a) in 25 games.

Am I the only one wondering why Saad finally woke up in the past two games? Faced with not being called up by the Hawks he manages 5 points in the past two games, but had only 15 points in 29 prior games?
The IceHogs sure could have used Saad at this level all year long.

Half PPG isn't bad for a 20 year old AHL rookie especially with the league being more competitive due to the Lockout. Most players are going to be hot-cold throughout the season. Give Saad props for his recent splurge.

Was it ever said anywhere why Calnan chose the EJHL route as opposed to others? Not a criticism so much as I'm just curious. Getting to be closer to home perhaps?

I believe Calnan is committed to Boston College in the fall. He was drafted out of high school so he had to play somewhere for a year before his college career starts. He probably did choose the EJHL because it's closer to home, but it's only one year so no big deal.

BC tends to recruit out of that league a bit in the first place so it'd be a natural move for him to play there anyway between that fact and living in the area. It's a good league, often misunderstood by many. Seems to make sense that he chose that route instead of the USHL.

I don't understand why he isn't playing in college this year. His birthday is 05.05.94...so I would have thought he graduated high school in June - and then would have entered college in September...but he started the season at Nobles, which was his high school. Shouldn't he be playing at BC this year?

I noticed that Hinostroza isn't due to enter Notre Dame until next fall...but, again, don't understand why he's not playing there this year...assuming he finished high school last spring.

Most colleges prefer players to further develop in junior for a year, sometimes two, before starting college. There are exceptions to that but generally that's the path.

May be it's simply because of increased ice time?

Maybe Saad just had a good weekend and it has nothing to do with training camp. I don't know about you guys, but every game I've seen Saad play in the AHL, he's been rock solid and has had a few chances that just weren't cashed in. Maybe the puck just went his way over the weekend?

He's been playing top 6 minutes all year, so probably not.

Yep, I agree with this. Granted, I've only caught three Rockford games this year, but all three times Saad was a standout and whatever line he was on seemed to be getting the most chances.

Highlights from the Admirals-Hogs game the other night.

The most important part is watching Saad's OT winner near the end.

Beast of a goal, with a guy hooking and draped all over him.

College football, its almost 100% to redshirt freshman since there is no junior leagues.
