Jaroslav Halak to Toronto?

St. Louis is in no rush to trade Halak.

They need quality defencemen and have little depth in net after the top 2.

I would think that any deal would have to include Jake Gardiner.

Halak is only 27.

A playoff team does not trade their starting goalie when the backup has serious question marks if he can repeat his performance from last season. Halak simply is not available.

He is definitely not untouchable.

If Halak is traded then who starts for the Blues?

What if James Reimer was involved in the trade?

He pretty much is unless we are receiving a better goalie in return. It just makes no sense to trade him at all. Why would the Blues weaken such an important position. The Blues needs are not so severe to make trading Halak to fill one make any sense at all.

I guess it would have to be Brian Elliott.

Is anyone really that sold that Elliott can repeat his performance from last season? I personally hope he can but am not sold on him after just one good season to make Halak available. Reimer would make no difference in a deal he has not proven to be a capable NHL starter.

So do you have a better goalie to give the Blues then? There's no need to weaken the goaltending to get another defenseman. Cole will do just fine.

You wouldn't downgrade from Halak to Reimer if it meant adding Jake Gardiner?

Usually I have to stick with my fanbase... But... It really doesn't make sense for the Blues to deal Halak. Let's put it this way, let's say Blues fan counter by saying "How about Elliot for a lesser price?", and Leaf fans will say "He's too unproven".

That's why Elliot is a bad replacement for Halak, even if they upgrade their D.

Exactly. And it's really not necessary to upgrade the defense. I mean we had the number 1 defense with Carlo freaking Colaiacovo on the top pairing.

Can we go ahead and say no Berglund to Toronto either, while we're at it?

Absolutely not and the following mini-rant is not directed at you individually, just the person I happened to quote.

No Halak, no Berglund, not today, not tomorrow, not on Saturday night, not in a month, not at the trade deadline.

The Blues got where they were last year because of the collective duo of Halak and Elliott. Not one or the other. We can't afford to trade either of them.

We cannot afford to trade Patrick Berglund because he is one of two centerman on the team.

If we are going to part with either Halak or Berglund (or Elliott for that matter) it would have to be for a better goalie or a better center. Since that is most likely unrealistic, we will take our chances with the team that was a win away from the President's trophy and hope that the additions of Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz, and Ian Cole are enough to get us over the top.

Mini-rant over lol.

Pens fan here.

Well said. STL is as complete of a team as any fan could want. What are your weaknesses? answer: None aside of lack of experience (which was obtained by losing last year). Oh and you are adding this guy named Tarasenko. You have solid young guys/prospects to fill any void you may have. This team will be good for a long time.

Why blow it up so soon?

Wouldn't St. Louis be more likely to trade Elliott? Halak is the better goalie, and Hitch's system just turned a journeyman Elliott into a valuable trade chip.

You ended the thread before you began it.

I'll go out and say it, it'd take Phil Kessel. STL isn't interested in acquiring prospects, they'll be gearing up for a cup run and there's not one single other player they could use as much as Halak from Toronto. He's their number one. Unless you want to overpay for Brian Elliott. lol

If we need to acquire quality defensemen, then what does just about every other team, especially Toronto have to do?
