I think Backstrom would be a pretty good goaltender. Minnesota could pay for part of the contract (allowed under the new CBA). Give up a prospect and a pick and get it done at some point. I've long been hearing this was a possibility, but with Harding's condition, I don't know if it's still an option.

Harding's condition threw a wrench in it. At the least though, this has got to be Backstrom's last year there. We can then sign him. Hackett is too good, too close. If we want him this year, Hackett would have to be absolutely tearing it up in the AHL, which he is not, as would Harding have to be doing the same in the NHL. I'm thinking more of a short term replacement to Emery this year, Theodore or Clemmensen if Markstrom keeps playing well in the AHL.

The fix is Crawford has to play better. You aren't going to pilfer a top goalie off of another team, especially not this season. Time for Crawford to play up to the contract.

I agree with this. Crawford has 2 years left including this one, and he has that much time to prove he can be an NHL goalie. If he can't, we have an option to trade for a #1 or see if Carruth (1.68/.940 this year) is ready for the NHL.

2 more years to prove himself you say? CC is not some 21 year old with great athletic ability and unlimited potential.

Figure out how to pull Mac Carruth up to Rockford to back up Hutton for the rest of this season, make him number one in Rockford next season and hope he's Blackhawk ready in 2014.

Chose other- I think we should give Crow this season to prove himself, and if he fails look at signing or trading for someone else. Emery is not a true number 1 option anymore. His hip just destroys his lateral movement.

He's paid like a high-end backup/low-end starter. He's not exactly making big bucks at 2.66M.

The team needs to play better infront of Crawford and he also needs to be more consistent.. but if the team continues to play like they did last year, it's not going to matter too much who's in net. This team doesn't have to play like the Predators or Coyotes.. but they need to be, at least, competent in their own end.

As we saw again last year Crawford is only shaky AHL goalie and not young anymore. We have one of the most expensive defenses and we need more help from goalie.

It baffles me how many times I have to repeat this.

Crawford isn't a young goalie, he is 28, by this time like other goalies who are 28, Ward, Fleury, Howard, he should be an established NHL starter, not a ? who we hope can have a good year, only his 2nd as the full time #1.

It wasn't like he wasn't playing at 23,24,25 because the Hawks had some Vezina trophy winning goalie in net, since Belfour left the Hawks have cycled through goalie after goalie none who have been really able to cut it.

Crawford laid himself too many eggs. That's the problem with him. It looks like it's more a head problem than with his body. He is what he is but it looks like sometimes he lost focus and did not concentrate enough. That's what worries me. He can make the saves and he has proven it. He just needs to play his game for the whole game. When he does this, he will be worth 3.5+ million.

I think it's a combination of factors. Poor defense in front of him and lack of athletic ability. He generally can make the first save (if he can see it), but if he leaves a rebound he's snow angeling and cannot recover. Our dmen are often mesmorized by the puck leaving ops standing around in front of him ... and the above leads him to lose confidence, so it becomes a snow-ball effect.

Agree with all of this. Hawks need to pick ups some competition in net via trade or at the draft. If the Hawks are looking good this year and Crawford is still inconsistent, see what's out there via trade.

Backstrom will be costly to re-sign and has already had some hip issues

Over 30 yr old butterfly goalies with early hip issues ,,, Very concerning

If Crawford under-performs this season, then I say wait it out until one of Carruth or Simpson are ready to make the jump. Simpson is already almost to the point where he can be reliable in the AHL, which seems promising. However, at this point I can't very well elaborate without seeing Crawford's performance under the Goonies.

Simpson seems to not be impressiv in the ECHL...
Carruth "only" dominates in the WHL as overager.

Not sure we have that great goalie prospect. Think Bowman should look to europe and see who could be good. Some good goalies over here. If Greiss can make it to the NHL, I'm sure 2-3 other Germans could do it too. Greiss isn't the clear cut #1 for Germany. Not biased, objectiv observations.

There's not a sane hockey fan in the world that would think Roberto Luongo could get Vacouver Patrick Kane.

Fact is Vancouver need to trade Luongo now while there is competition for him. If they wait they'll over wait and the teams wanting him will find other solutions and it will get to the point where Vancouver has to trade him.

Right now Vancouver are in a spot of power, they don't need to get rid of him and other teams want him, as the days go that power shifts to the other side more and more.
