And now, according to a "source" Arians is a finalist too giving us three:

@ZachZaidman: RT @RapSheet: Source: Alouettes coach Marc Trestman spent all day today at Halas Hall speaking with #Bears people again.

Rob Ryan apparently hired by the Rams. Damn would've been my first choice as DC.

not sure what to think about that. In Emery I trust. HE knows who is best suited and what he wants.

pretty much where I'm at. I know they're going offensive and that's all I care about.

Not at all. Buddy Ryan's son. High pressure, blitzing, innovative defense. No more sit back and watch people gash us up the seams and underneath.

They're saying on the radio that with Treisman and the Seattle OC (drawing a blank on his name right now) that Marinelli would stay, based on what they have heard.

Well, he's under contract for the 2013 season, so he won't follow Lovie till next season at the earliest. Also, it's not guaranteed Lovie lands a HC gig this season, or even next, so there may not be a place to follow him too.

I also would have loved him as a DC... The guy is aggressive, and the only reason their defense fell apart was because of injuries.

Yep, another reason to point and laugh at the Cowboys and Jerry Jones. He keeps making the wrong moves. If you fire anyone, you fire Garrett. But he gets rid of Rob Ryan instead, and the Rams get a great pickup for an up-and-coming defense.

BTW, if Rob Ryan gets the Rams defense to take the next step, think about the defenses in the NFC West:

San Francisco
Seattle
St Louis
Arizona

Even Arizona's defense is pretty solid. Easily the best defensive division in Football.

I'm happy it's definitely going to be an offensive coach. If I was picking from the 3, it would definitely be Arians but Emery gets to talk to these guys so whatever he picks is good with me.

Yikes... that'd be a filthy division. Fisher + Ryan + the talent they already have on defense could scary things for everyone else.

Toub is leaving for sure which sucks but I'll be happy if Marinelli stays.

What if did something where we offered a top special teams coach, perhaps Armstrong, Associate Head Coach? That's what I would do. Big shoes to fill with Toub.

Innovative defense?

The Cowboys D was terrible this past year and all Ryan does is blitz ,, Its a very predictable defense

Look at how well Cutler picks it apart (ALont with several other QB's)

Not to mention if we hired Ryan we would have to move to 3-4

Ryan's D was not good last year either

Infact his defenses have been consistantly ranked in lower 3rd of NFL overall

Cutler had the benefit of two defensive scores and great field position in that game.

The Cowboys' offense made their defense look a good deal worse than it was.

With that said, I do agree that Ryan isn't anything special. But he wasn't really given a fair shake in Dallas.

Who cares if he is Buddy Ryans son, he is a loud mouth moron who hasn't schemed a defense that finished in the top 10 and last year he coached a Dallas defense was 19th in yards allowed and 24th in PPG. The Bears where 5th in yards allowed and 3rd in PPG. Why take a top 5 defense and turn it into a bottom 10 defense.

Everyone thinks the grass is greener on the other side wrt defenses. If we had the 3-4 the last few years I'm sure people would want to switch to a 4-3.

The 3-4 man scheme isn't some miracle defense that stops everything. Instead of quick slants, tight end seam routes, zone flooders, etc, you get double moves for big touchdowns, big yardage pass interference calls, amongst other things. Each has their own strengths and flaws.
