$#*! My 1290 Says (Formerly The First Annual Rick Ralph Roast)
Can TSN do us a favor and get a new host for the pre and post game shows? Rick Ralph is way too old, and his hockey IQ isn't high enough to keep him around IMO. He's boring, and when he uses ancient idioms like "Cheveldayoff will be sure to hang his shingle out", it's annoying. His interactions with callers during the post-game are also very awkward, and it really seems like he gets confused as to whether he should agree with callers or have a debate with them.
Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't mind it if TSN Radio hired someone else next year.
Yeah, not really a big fan of him. Seems like he's really out of touch with what the fan base is thinking. Probably because he hates the Internet so much.

Too old? He's 41.
I actually rather like Rick in the post-game, his snarkiness works for me. I don't always agree with him, but I appreciate that he tries to be a rock of sanity in the middle of some of those calls.
He could probably stand to be more open to the points of view of some of the more coherent callers, though.
He's only 41? Well, dear God, why does he sound like he's 90 years old? Seriously. He's boring. I still couldn't get over that "shingle" idiom he used for Cheveldayoff at the trade deadline. Had he said something like "Cheveldayoff's Blackberry will be going off come February 27", I would have known what he was talking about.
Give him a listen tomorrow, and tell me that man doesn't sound like your grandpa.

OK, I'll take a listen, maybe he is a very old 41.
the dude deals with so many moron that call in all the time....one guy called in yesterday suggesting we trade away draft picks and prospects for a cup run this year lmao

The quality of callers is a reflection of the quality of the program 1290 produces. CJOB's pre and post game shows are night and day better than 1290's.
I love 1290's in-game crew of Munz/Beyak/Hnidy. Ralph and Neufeld should be doing MMJHL games.

No arguement here, CJOB is far superior to TSN 1290 aside from Beyak and Hnidy. I'm impressed with Dan Kamal on OB' who does a first class job along with old pro Kelly Moore.
Thanks for listening folks. The ratings were through the roof for Jets broadcasts. As for the Chevy quote at the top, I've never heard of that phrase and have never said it so not sure what that person is listening to. Cheers. Looking forward to the coming season.
EDIT: I actually like Rick Ralph. I think its unfortunate that he has to deal with morons who call in. Not an easy job politely informing people that they have no idea what their talking about.
He does a good job moving things along. That said, I'm not overly critical of media generally.
Personally, I think the guy is on the front lines of dealing with morons and drunks post-game so who can blame him; he's probably holding himself back knowing the joke has already written itself.
I can't stand CJOB... so 1290s current line-up is fine with me.
Hosting a post game show in Winnipeg can't be easy when every caller knows more about hockey than the host, guests, players, GM, coach, scouting staff....
Got a laugh last year when some guy named Harold, Howard, Hank or something from Elmwood or EK called in after every game (usually sounded drunk) suggesting they trade just about every player on the team.
The beauty is everyone has an opinion. Some come from left field, some are knee-jerk, and others are a home run. No different than any other Canadian city.

Howard lives in Rock Ridge. Don't recall if he was the one clearing the table or not. Some are pretty entertaining. Dawn in the West End (who should be living in the East) had great energy.
I appreciate Ralph more now that I've heard him outside of the post game show. Stick handling through those callers after a game must be exhausting. During the lockout I've heard him a number of times during the day and he can be entertaining.
Not sure about the grandpa thing....
