Buffalo needs to move Defencemen

What would you offer and for whom?

The sabres tried to Send 6' 8" Joe Finley to Rochester but the Islanders claimed him off waivers.

Erhroff and Myers are not tradeable. McNabb will likely stay in the minors this year in part due to all the defencemen.

They also have Brennen, Sekera, Pardy, Weber, Leopold, Regher, and Sulzer.

Brennan is out of AHL options so if Finley cant clear waivers Brennan wont. They arent going to give him away.

Leopold and Regher are in their last year of their contracts. Regher has a no trade clause.

With Buffalo acquiring Ott...Ott and Weber were close friends...look at each other as brothers. I believe Otts parents homed Weber during his time in juniors.

They need to move 1 if not 2.

Pardy can play 4th line LW as well.

I figure Leopold, Brennan, or Sekera would be the most likely one to get traded.

Don't see Sekera getting traded, but I'd love him on the Stars.

Ottawa needs a Dman, but are most likely to either claim someone off waivers, or sign a UFA stopgap.

I expect Pardy could clear waivers.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Jordan Leopold find his way onto the Wild, like aging Minnesotans often do.

Not with the number of teams who are looking for 5/6/7 defencemen right now.

I mean, I'd take him for free in Ottawa right now. Doubt he clears.

Think Leopold or Regehr could be a decent stopgap solution for Nashville. What would it take?

Most likely, a 2nd rounder or a young winger in your system. Regehr is most likely not touchable until the trade deadline.....if that. Leopold is fair game.

What pieces would Nashville be willing to part with? I'd love Austin Watson, but we'd probably have to add something nice to Leopold to make that happen. Prospects like Budish and Salomaki interest me as well. One of those two and a draft pick would certainly get me listening.

To clarify: Brennan, Pardy, and Leopold are the only real trade candidates. Our top 3 guys (Myers, Ehrhoff and Sekera) aren't going anywhere. Regehr has an NTC and would be unlikely to waive, and Weber's probably safe for now because of his relationship with Ott.

3 very different players for sale there, so I imagine there's a good trade partner somewhere in the league.

I don't understand why people think that just because Weber and Ott are like brothers that Weber can't or won't be traded...

If the right offer comes around ..Weber is gone...Darcy will pull the trigger.

Sekera would look great next to Petro, what would be REASONABLE return for Buffalo?

Chris Stewart OR A top prospect(Rattie/Jaskin) not named Tarasenko/Schwartz and a 1st?

A reasonable return would be one that doesn't make sense for St Louis.

Sekera's a steal on his current contract and quite frankly should be "untouchable" based on how well he played last year. The only way Sekera should be traded is for bona fide top line/pairing talent...so unless you want to swing a Sekera+ deal for, say, Backes, I don't see a deal that I'd like.

I'd have to pass on that. Stewart, Rattie, and a 1st are all pieces I'd be interested in, but if I'm moving Sekera it's in a bigger deal for a top line player, at the very least I'd want a blue chip prospect in return which I don't view Rattie as.

Personally, I'd ask for Legwand...while I'm not a fan of his contract (with the cap coming down next year), I think he'd be a really good fit. But I doubt the Preds would want to give him up. Leopold for Legwand is fairly close in value, Sabres might need to add a B-level prospect or mid round pick.

Regher would be a good option for the Rangers 5-6D at the deadline. What would you want?

With Mitchell being injured indefinitely after his knee surgery, I'm sure the Kings could use a veteran defenseman. Would the Sabres be interested in Loktionov (skilled, potential 2nd line center) or Lewis (defensive forward capable of center or wing)? What would you be willing to trade for either of them?

Unless there's some other piece that the Sabres are interested in, provided they are willing to give more in turn.

I'm guessing your exaggerating Sekera for Backes to overstate a level of value, but you don't really think Sekera is worth Backes, do you?

I've always liked Legwand as well and think he'd be a great fit here unfortunately he's got a NMC and I'm not so sure he'd waive it to come to Buffalo, Pred's fans also seem to value him quite a bit.

No, I said Sekera+ (obviously we'd have to add). But really that's the only type of deal I can see us moving Sekera--packaging him for a top talent.

Nope, hence the + after Sekera. Moving Sekera wouldn't be a smart move for the Sabres unless he's packaged with other players, picks, prospects for something like a 1st line talent. I wouldn't trade him for a bunch of lesser pieces such as: Stewart, Rattie, or draft picks I think that was the point being made.

Legwand his a fan favorite.....bad PR to trade him away. the only fans could deal with it is if he was in a final year contract and it was at the trading deadline.
