Well I thought Edmonton needed some kind of replacement... but now with Fistric I guess they have many bodies.

At any rate LD becomes way too crowded if Methot doesn't go the other way.

Lol @ trade Methot before he plays a single game here.

I have a feeling he's gonna be great here, he's also here because it's his home town and wants to play for Ottawa.

Fine, but there's no way he comes close to Smid.

If you guys thought I liked Kuba, well... I like Smid even more

Well, if by "perfect", you mean "We need a #6 defenceman, and nobody says '#6 defenceman' like David Schlemko" then sure. The guy isn't physical, but he's one of those "does nothing great, but does several things fairly well" kind of guys.

Agreed that he wouldn't cost too much. I'd be OK with seeing Schlemko in a Sens jersey this year. He's currently the #6 in Phoenix, could be expendable (read: cheap) if one of Gormley/Rundblad/Stone/Summers leapfrogs him.

Yeah, just an all around guy that doesn't hurt the team at all. Not great offensively nor defensively but definitely contributes from the 3rd pair.

It's random dudes like this that make Phoenix a good team. So good in their role.

This is really good. I like that you're writing this stuff down.
It's going to be real fun to go back and read later.

Smid is an elite #2 d-man.

There you go Icelevel, more ''material'' for you to use.

I'm sorry, Smid and elite should never be used in the same sentence.

He's an elite defensive defenseman. There I did it again.

I'm sure Licelevel will let you borrow his material

Phillips and Volchenkov were BOTH top pair guys on the SAME team that went to the Cup FINALS.

Haha, well played.

I like Smid too, but why would Edmonton not keep him around? They need D even more then we do.

Also, I thought one quote today from Murray was telling. He said he wouldn't really look into signing a FA dman until a few days go by. It Could be just he wants a look at guys in camp, but I have a feeling he wants to acquire a top 4 guy in short order rather than go to the scrap heap. Wouldn't be surprised to see Bishop and or our young forwards in play to get that guy.

And Philly - Volch was the first pair. Both of them were less than a minute behind and had 2 more minutes of even strength time.

Redden got PP time.

Philly and Volch were both #2 caliber... if they produced offense and played PP they would have been #1 d-men easily, but they didn't.

If Locke was bigger and faster he'd be a number 1 center in the NHL.

No they weren't.

They got more combined ice time than Redden - Meszaros overall despite not getting any PP time.

CP - AV got 2 minutes more than Redden at even strength. They lined up against #1 lines all the time. And they were dominant in that role. #1 pair.

That's cool. The way he was, he was an awful NHL player.

The way CP and AV were, they were #2 d-men. Both of them.
