San Jose/Toronto

I'm not really into trading Niemi, but Doug Wilson supposedly offered Niemi for JVR straight up

To San Jose: JVR

To Toronto: Niemi

Before the idiots come in and say Niemi sucks...

My guess is that Leafs fans want a better #1 goalie that they can roll with.

You are overvaluing JVR way way way too much.

Value isn't even methinks, sharks need to add.

Plus, this leaves us with a hole in net. If one of our goalie prospects was ready I could see Niemi + 2nd/3rd + prospect for JVR or something like that. But that isn't the case.

If JVR is going to be traded for any goalie, it will be Luongo.(or no one at all)

Are you ******** me?

Let's all have a reminder of the fact that JVR was traded for Luke Schenn. Justin Braun > Luke Schenn.

I think this is bad for the Sharks.

Niemi isn't exactly Jaques Plante but he's a solid number 1 and has a really good Cup-winning postseason under his belt. I don't think JVR, until he starts living up to his potential a bit more, is worth that by himself.

I am sorry but explain to me again how a goalie who has a career GAA under 2.4 and career save % of .915 and a Stanly cup not worth an unproven winger who hasn't lived up to his draft position yet?

No offence but Niemi won a cup on a team that was completely stacked. Any goalie in the NHL that year playing for the Blackhawks would of won the cup. Toronto is better off going with Reimer or Scrivens. Toronto has zero interest in Niemi.

I understand that many Sharks fans want Niemi gone, but it makes no sense. We would have to get another goalie, unless you think Greiss/Stalock/Sateri can be starter, which I don't and can't see how you can. Either JVR or Clowe, both top 6 players, would be on the third line, unless you want to trade Clowe for a goalie, and we'll have to add and that creates another weakness. Niemi may not be a star, but he is average and there is no use downgrading for strength at a position that we are doing fine in.

We can't trade Niemi right now. I just don't think Greiss is capable of handling starter minutes and Stalock is still a year away.

When Niemi is on he can be one of the top goalies in the league. The year before he was just as good as Quick. I think Nemo just needs to rebuild his confidence right now.

Are the Sharks even looking to upgrade their goaltending? Or do they feel Niemi is good enough to win the cup with their current roster?

No, we're going to stick with Niemi. Stalock is in the wings.

I don't have faith in any goalies in the Shark's system to start or platoon and I don't think Niemi will have as much success on the Leafs. Not knocking Niemi, but he's been fortunate to be on some pretty good teams.

It's a pretty divisive issue among the fanbase. Statwise, he's one of the better goalies in the league but it seems like he gives up the worst goals. Then there are people who think that our goalie prospects are ready for the big time as well. Generally, I think Niemi is an acceptable goalie and he's good enough but we could do better.

Sharks don't really have a choice. They don't have a lot to trade around at this point and the few things they are willing to trade will properly be swapped for 3rd line depth. What they do have are some solid goaltending prospects. Someone mentioned Stalock who would probably be in the NHL is it wasn't for his 2011 knee injury.

I do believe Niemi is good enough to win if he gets hot or the team in front of him plays like Chicago during their cup run. Adequate is probably a good word choice.

It may be a divisive issue among the fanbase, but Wilson and McLellan are firmly and happily in Niemi's camp, and the players really like him too.

I like Niemi. The only issue I have with is that he is prone to giving up a soft goal and gives out huge rebounds. Other than that he is a good goalie. He is great in the shootout and on breakaways too. He can steal a game when he is on.
