I'm not hating on the guy, I hope he makes it, I am just wondering why Lombardi and Co. keep calling up everyone else but him? Now they call up Muzzin and put him on waivers. That's a smack in the face.
They have to put Hickey on waivers since he did not get a call up(that's my understanding).
Again the Kings are in love with Muzzin's size not his actual ability to defend. Cause he can't . The first three months of last year, and the first two months of this year, Muzzin has been one of the worst defenders in Manchester.
I wouldn't be surprised if Bodnarchuck beats Muzzin out in camp.

Who is everyone?
If I recall right, A-Mart was recalled early in 2010-2011. Hickey missed almost the entire season before that with a knee injury and was still playing himself back into shape at that time, so that recall makes sense. Vopynov is Voynov and is a very good defenseman in his own right, and according to everyone last season Hickey and Voynov were basically equal at training camp. Hardly a shame that Voynov beat him out and IMO, if Hickey's cap hit last year was the same as Voynov's, he may have been kept over Voynov.
Outside of when A-Mart was recalled two years ago, when was the last time LA needed anyone recalled due to injury? We've had plugs like Harrold and Drewiske to fill in here and there.
And now, they are recalling to replace Mitchell, hence Muzzin, as he plays a much more similar style than Hickey.
If Scuds had been hurt, I'd wager it'd be Muzzin on waivers right now and Hickey in camp.
My question is why Hickey though when DL could have picked another defenseman. (Alzner, McDonaugh, Blum, Subban). Was Hickey better than these guys at that time?
The thought at the time was that Hickey had the highest upside but Alzner was the most NHL ready with limited upside. That said that draft was not a very good one for defensemen... Hickey also wasn't a real off the board pick. He was rated about 12-15 on most lists, DL tried to trade down, but discovered Boston wanted Hickey at #8 so he stayed at #4 and took him.
EDM is going to pass on Hickey, they have plenty of depth in their own minors.
If they claimed Hickey he would have to remain on the NHL roster, and EDM doesn't have room.
Actually, IIRC, Edmonton can send him to the minors, he'd just have to go back on waivers and any team that put in a claim on Hickey this time, plus the Kings, could reclaim him. And if LA reclaimed him, he could go straight to the minors.

It was a bad draft for D I agree, but that said I'd still love to have McDonagh right now, especially with Willie hurt. McDonagh is a very good, top pairing D-man IMO.
I am shocked he cleared. Guess no one needed a #6 d-man. Find that surprising given everyone wants d-men it seems. I figured a team that is likely outside of the playoffs anyways, such as say the Islanders, wouldn't take a chance on him and give him 10-15 NHL games to see if he can do anything. I guess the demand was more for the bigger bodies, like Finley and Fistric.
Well, most teams want experience as well as not carrying on another rookie liability. Also, it isn't easy adding another body to the roster at any moment without getting rid of a body or contract in the process. Hickey would have had to have stayed on the roster.
It would be like us claiming some forward prospect. We are maxed at the position, and we have enough youth peppered into our bottom 6. The kid would end up sitting in the stands the whole year.

And apparently Hickey and the rest haven't cleared waivers yet. The deadline for claims is (if I understand things correctly) noon EST, or in about 30 minutes. Likely won't know for another hour or so if he's cleared.
That makes perfect sense, especially with the Visnovsky stuff. They are in need of puck moving defensemen. Best of luck to him, that is actually a great fit for him.
