Burke picked up Liles for a second round pick.

I would pick him up for at most a first rounder. or middle level prospect.

I really do not want to trade away filppula (Legit 2nd liner). Also those that mention filppula as a UFA likely to sign on another team?... highly likely he resigns in Detroit, I do not look at Detroit UFA's as danger of resigning on other teams. Hudler we let walk, we didn't "lose him"

Nope, no way we trade Filppula for a d-man like Liles. I know some people may try to argue that Filppula isn't proven because he has only one real good season, but most Wings fans have seen the talent in him for a long time and we believe him getting a permanent top six spot has allowed him to show it. A smaller offensive minded D isn't what we need, though admittedly id much rather have Liles than Colaiacovo.

Here's another case of a fan hoping that his team can get a good player in exchange for spare parts.

Liles hasn't been spare parts once in his career.

But I agree this offer is brutal.

I'm partial to it.

Liles played well for us last year. We need depth on D, anyway.

A more realistic offer would be:

Gardiner OR O'Reilly

for

Filppula

(You want our 3rd best forward? Give up your top prospect (realize that neither are GARAUNTEED to be good).

Also I realize BOTH Toronto fans, and Detroit fans would probably dislike this deal.
Just saying this is more "fair value"

Flip is our only center who isn't old (30+) but not very young (under 25).
Yes he is UFA at the end of the season, but only case I see Flip traded is be a part of package to bring in a better player.

Like Flip ++ for top pairing D

Who's O'Reilly?? Leafs would never do that deal. I assume you mean Morgan Reilly

Also OP's proposal is brutal

The fact that he's an upcoming UFA brings down his value, but if Detroit's going to trade him (And I don't believe they should or will) it's going to be for something bigger than Liles.

Now if you want to give us O'Reilly...

Why the heck would the Leafs trade Liles & a pick for an impending UFA forward that we have absolutely no use for?

Toronto needs to stop kidding themselves acquiring middle-of-the-lineup forwards. If we're going to acquire a forward, it's a bonafide top line centre who's going to displace Tyler Bozak from the position. Otherwise, our needs are on the blueline and in goal.

I think it's more a case of a fan thinking he can get a player that had one good season and is a UFA this summer, for a solid offensive defenseman who is signed for four years. No way Toronto does this.

Thats brutal. Filppula is solid player dont get me wrong. But with the production (and age) we got last year from Gards (and this year in the AHL) and the blue chip status of rielly put thier value above Filppula. I agree Liles is a bit of a low ball.

I would think;

Gunnarson + 2nd (conditional if he re-signs with TO)

for

Filppula.

one good(borderline elite,66 points and he was 15th in the entire NHL in even strength points) offensive season(he's always been good defensively) in his first season playing a new position(he played Wing last year) after always being viewed as having loads of untapped offensive potential

ITT: people who clearly didn't see Filppula play last year

lmao this is worse than the original offer!

So the Leafs are going to trade the #5 overall pick in the previous draft, who'se done nothing but increase his value in the few months for..... get this...... a pending UFA who's best 2 seasons are 66 points and 40 points!!?!
