If it's based on last season, I don't get how come Spezza is listed at 23rd but the Sedins are both top 10. Their ranking should be a lot closer than 13 positions.

Spezza wasn't even in the top 50 list last year. The guy is the most consistently underrated player in the league.

The rankings were based on the overall ability of the player not just who scored the most points. I do not watch Vancouver a ton, but would you say the Sedins are better defensively than Spezza?

I'm not asking how good Spezza is defensively. I am asking are the Sedins better in other areas(such as defense) that could account for why they are rated higher despite putting up less points?

Danny won an Art Ross one year, And Hank won the Hart and Art Ross the year beofre that. Kinda hard to argue with ranking them over Spez

All 3 are there for their offensive stats which Spezza blows them out of the water.
Henrik has a career point average per game of 0.837, Daniel of 0.835 and Jason of 1.016.
Spezza is better in face offs, plays some PK time while the Sedins don't. All 3 don't hit or block shots.
No, Sedins don't do defense, Spezza does a little bit defense.

Yes they did had one very good year.
In spezza 4 best years he has an pt per game average of 1.299, 1.324,
1.211 & 1.211 (fun fact: exact same stats for 11-12 and 07-08 76g, 34g, 58a, 92pts)

And I don't get the Eric Staal love either. How can he be ahead of his brother??? He has done nothing in the last 5 years or so, all of a sudden many are putting the canes in the playoffs because they got Jordan...Makes no sense to me! Seems like Jordan is more important than Eric. Plus, Spezza is a much better player IMO...

The Sedins play for the Canucks who are (somewhat undeservedly) the top dog Canadian team in the NHL right now, that's all there is to it.
I remain surprised at how people give any kind of creedence to rankings like these, especially when made by TSN as a build up to the shortened season...
Parise is riding the hype from being the most coveted forward free agent this year. It will wear off unless he has a monster season. Ditto for Ryan Suter.

This. Although it's nowhere near as bad the outrage that generally follows the annual HFboard organizational prospect rankings.

Eric Staal Point Totals last 5 years
82

and he has only missed 13 games in 5 years, scored 164 goals (33 avg per season). Pretty tough numbers for any NHL'er to match.
I may disagree with some of the players ahead of him but if you blindly told me there was a list and Spezza was the 23rd ranked player, I'd be OK with that.
Eric Staal is a great player. I'd say he's on par with or a bit below Spezza, and he's definitely accomplished and proven more than his brother Jordan.

It was supposed to be a projection for their performances this season if I'm not mistaken. Which makes it surprising that they had Crosby at number 1 because his previous concussions will likely impact his play.
