Cullen is better at faceoffs, but Brodziak pays much better at center. Don't know why, he just does.

Cullen on the wing lets him use his speed more. I also see Brodziak as more of a defensive type player in his end.

From the wild's twitter: use promo code "dropthepuck" to buy single game tickets now...

I bought a pair for Sunday... Limited availability for sides... Ends and corners still had a lot

Twitter is saying that the NHL and NHLPA have agreed to allow buyouts now(Redden, Gomez).

Redden is an interesting option for the Wild. He wasnt worth the 6.5 million, but he still is probably a 4/5 D men in the NHL. He's getting paid a ton anyways, probably wouldn't cost all that much.

I think starting the season it'll be this:

Parise - Koivu - Heatley
Bouchard - Granlund - Setoguchi
Cullen - Brodziak - Clutterbuck
Mitchell -Konopka - Powe

Suter - Spurgeon
Scandella - Gilbert
Stoner - Falk

Backstrom
Harding

At the end of the season:

Parise - Brodziak - Coyle
Zucker - Cullen - Heatley
Mitchell - Konopka - Setoguchi
Larsson - Powe - Clutterbuck

Suter - Gilbert
Brodin - Scandella
Falk- Spurgeon

Backstrom
Hackett

i see what you did there. :'(

edit: but you are severely overestimating Konopka's hockey skill if you think he'll be playing third line minutes.

It the moment, no. But if its decided to upgrade the D, wouldn't be to hard to ditch one(Eric Nystrom for future considerations).

Yeah it would be nice to have an open contract or two. Guys like Broda, McMillan, Veilleux, Cuma gotta go.

Agreed, looking at capgeek it seems the Wild are poised to not qualify a few RFA's this off season if they can't dump someone now.

Broda definitely needs to go. Let him wander around the AHL/ECHL for the rest of his career.

I'm willing to give Cuma and McMillan some more development time before I'm willing to cut them loose.

Veilleux is just... Veilluex.

Cut Veilleiux. Please for the love of god.

Blah blah blah energy blah blah blah grit blah blah blah. Don't care for the pro-SV responses.

Unless you also want to make the case the Wild could use Brank Radivojevic, there is no reason Veilleux is on this Wild team. He had his shot. Other guys like Kassian and Dowell should have theirs.

I agree.

We have a logjam of players on the 4th line.

While I like S.V. as a person, he is just not very good. Let's move on.

Nope, not really.

A little bit of a down year, awful in WJC camp, last cut from the team, Brent Sutter fired their coach and took over mid-November, they've been winning a ton but have no offense up front.

We'll see how he looks tomorrow night I guess.

Veilleux would not have been re-signed if they knew they'd get Parise and Suter. Same with Torrey Mitchell. Then again I don't know if they'd sign Jake Dowell if they were out on Suter.

This all ties in with my other idea to not do anything stupid to get that #2 defenseman. We've got a lot of tweeners. Let's see how they look before dumping contracts for next season.

Speaking of the 4th line ... how many games is Kassian going to realistically play this season? I'd guess its somewhere around 15.

His only natural dance partner inside the division in Hordichuck.

Do you play him against a team like the Flames? They don't have a pure enforcer on their roster but they have their share of guys who are physical and have been more than willing to go chippy against us in the past. Nevertheless no one on the Flames is going to fight Kassian.

How about Colorado? McLeod was willing to run Spurgie last year but in subsequent games he ran away from Kassian as fast as he could. McLeod hasn't fought a Wild player in the regular season as far as I can tell. He fought ZK in the 09-10 season; looked like draw to me; more of a wrestling match than a fight.

We have three games with the Blues. Very big team that plays a physical game and has a heavyweight in Reaves. I'd expect Kassian to play in all three of these matchups.

Also have three games each against Columbus (Boll) and Phoenix (BizNasty).

Really though its the dilemma of the role of an enforcer in today's game. What's the point of playing Kassian to counter a guy like McLeod if McLeod is never going to dance with him?

Yep, I think so too. I like the guy though, and will be definitely rooting for him. Based off his tweets and interviews, he seems like a genuinely nice guy with a good sense of humor. But sadly, with Konopka, there's no real use for him on the team... Unless he can repeat those 2 goal performances more often. He does bring grit though.

No surprise if it happens.

Not gonna speculate but if I was Kassian, I'd ask for a trade (unless both the Wild and Matt know a team would claim him) rather than being placed on waivers. Even though, Kassian in Houston might be a good thing since Bagnall is currently injured.

Anyways, I'd really like to see him stay with the Wild but I think contracts (50/50) and roster spot may become an issue. Still, I'd trade/waive Prosser before him...
