That's a reasonable solution for all parties.

Edit -> "Each team is still permitted only 2 compliance buyouts, either before Saturday or in summers of 2013 or 2014."

Yes. 2 buyout periods were agreed in the CBA.

Come back to Ottawa, Wade (for 1 million or less).

I wonder if its a situation where if Redden or Gomez can sign on somewhere else, their cap hit for NY and MON is decreased by the amount of the new contract.

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper

With new agreement, 1st buyout window will start prior 2 season opener. 2nd one remains in summer. Cap hit stays 4 rest of this season only

Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie
2/2..NYR would take cap hit even if Redden signs with another team as UFA. This option will be available to all clubs (Mont/Gomez).

Wow, now that the first buyout is now, do you think we'll see more then just Gomez and Redden get bought out before the season starts or does anyone think some guys like Horcoff might be shown the door as well?

Doesn't sound like it. Sounds like they're making an exception here so Gomez and Redden don't have to miss an entire year of hockey which would hurt their market value. (as if they had any lol)

I don't think so. The next two years will stay in place. The buyouts in the following season will have no cap hit. This one still has a cap hit for this year and none for next year.

Not a fan of this then. I'd much rather save one for after next season.

ZERO chance.

Possibly in the summer but not now.

Horcoff is still an important part of the team....definitely WAY overpaid but still an elite 3rd line checking C

There's no real benefit to buying out Horcoff unless they are afraod of an injury tht would keep him on their payroll. Better to wait IMO.

Keeping only one player in the minors because of a ****** contract is abusing the rules? Get the hell out of here..

Now with the rule change, this is fair. I'm just not cool with getting rid of the buyout period after 2013-14.

Here is the question I have,

Gomez and Redden were going to be getting their full salary, prorated, but still, when buying out a contract, its 2/3 of the amount left, over double the term, so explain, those Gomez get 2/3 of his pay over 4 years now, or full amount this year, and 2/3 of next year over 2 years?

I thought I heard Olesz didn't pass his physical -so Hawks would be stuck in that case.

If Montreal's GM hadn't traded for Gomez you know very well that he'd do the same there. Probably the same again if Drury wasn't done.

If I understand correctly, we will pay him the rest of his money on his contract and the term does not double.

He gets 2/3 of his pay remaining on the contract I believe. The cap hit would have been spread out over double the term remaining. But because it comes off the cap next season it would just be the full cap hit this year and be gone.

2/3 of his money remaining which is 10 million I believe. So they save 3.33 million in actual dollars.
