Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie
Appears as if agreement reached as suggested here earlier.Compliance buyout can be used now on Redden with NYR taking 5.6M cap hit (1/2)...

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie
2/2..NYR would take cap hit even if Redden signs with another team as UFA. This option will be available to all clubs (Mont/Gomez).

What this means I think is this: We buy out Gomez now We retain his cap hit for this year only.

Yup, same thing that was going to happen anyway with him sitting home. This way he can find employment elsewhere and the Habs are done with him.

Basically, he's no longer part of the team in anyway. But his cap hit is still in tact (ala old CBA).. and he's free to sign with a team.

Exactly. The details.

1. Gomez can be bought out now.
2. Habs retain his cap hit for this year only.
3. Gomez may sign with another team.

So, as others reported, Gomez and Redden and any player for that matter can get an "accelerated compliance buyout" before Saturday's opener

Yeah Gomez is the big winner here if he can get on with another team.

I dont think he will have a hard time TBH. He's a good 1-2-3 million dollar player.

Good for Gomez and Redden. I'm sure both players would like to play even though are getting paid not to.

Clubs will save 1/3 of players' actual salary this year - no cap benefit - by buying out now but players would get chance to sign elsewhere.

I'd have preferred if the value of their new contacts were subtracted from the original teams cap, but it is certainly more fair to Gomez and Redden. Have to like that.

The agents for Scott Gomez and Wade Redden are currently reviewing the matter, should have a decision on both guys later today

Is it just one player, or two like it was going to be allowed in the summer?

I am secretly happy for Gomez. Hope he gets a good opportunity here. Wouldn't be surprised to NJ pick him. Hell even TO.

Habs lose the 900k in savings.

Not sure they'll be able to fit Subban and Galchenyuk under the cap if Gally makes the team. Can be very tricky. A trade will have to occur.

With loss of the 900k savings. Habs have 7.2 million in cap space,

2 Buyouts. I say we use one now and the other in the summer

I like this from the NHL and NHLPA. Gives both Gomez and Redden a chance to get back playing if anyone wants to take a chance on them. I predict Gomez will get a shot with the Devils again.

Maybe not, he will lose 1.83 mil this year, so if he signs for 1 yaer 1 mil as a "prove it" contract he will lose 800k but in the grand scheme no big deal.

Sorry, my mistake on this year, player gets 100 per cent on buyout, not two thirds. No saving to club. My bad.

I think Redden's agent is Meehan. Does that put PK on the back burner for another day?

I'm pretty sure they will drop 900k from cap hit if he isn't on the active roster(same as assigning to AHL). Would only make sense.

Galcheyuk's cap hit is minimal. 0.92 mil
