Each team is still permitted only 2 compliance buyouts, either before Saturday or in summers of 2013 or 2014.

The NHL and PA couldn't have agreed to this 10 days ago?

Excellent, so the Rangers can use an amnesty this season on Redden?

Sorry, my mistake on this year, player gets 100 per cent on buyout, not two thirds. No saving to club. My bad.
https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/s...72205101314048

Redden gets his full salary in the buyout for 13.

Excellent news.

Wait, what? Does Redden get 100% of this year and 2/3 of next year, or 100% of both? Also, how about bought out contracts later on?

Yep. No downside. No real upside either, except for doing a good thing for Redden.

NHL and NHLPA have reached agreement on accelerated compliance buyouts. Will carry full cap charge for 2013 season.

Full charge or $5,600,000.

The hit will then come off the salary cap beginning this summer and the buyout will then revert to 2/3 spread out for remaining years

Apparently use the Amnesty buyout now and still have one left for 2013 or 2014 (after season). In that case - very good. Really means nothing for us. We take the cap hit and move on
So then Sather signs Gomez for $1,5M this year???
I actually see Gomez going to NJD, Dallas or Chicago and Redden to Detroit, Edmonton or Philly.

100% this season, 2/3 next season. All future seasons will be 2/3.

#NYR So in Redden's case, team pays him 100% of salary owed this year. Full cap hit minus $ saved assigning him to AHL
https://twitter.com/KatieStrangESPN/...73640803192833

Redden gets his remaining salary this season. The Rangers take the $5.6M cap hit. Redden gets $3,333,333 in the amnesty buyout.

#CBA And from my understanding, these accelerated compliance buyouts are available to all 30 teams, not just MTL and NYR

This isn't an amnesty buyout...still 5+ cap hit.

Weren't teams going to be allowed two buyouts, that had no cap penalty? One this summer and one next?

Amnesty: pardon

Where is the pardon? Penalizing 5+ mil on the cap? That's not an amnesty buyout.

Yes, basically we are using one of this summer's buy-outs right now, with the same effect. No cap hit next season.

Yeah, but player gets his money now. Shouldn't team get its cap space now.

Yeah this is neither an Amnesty buyout (no cap hit) or an Ordinary Cause buyout (2/3rd cap hit spread out over 2x remaining years). Interesting.

It's more like releasing the player now and then buying out the contract in the summer.

But that's what would have happened if they didn't make this rule, except you are punishing Redden by not allowing him play.

Player isn't getting his money now. He'll get it in payments over the next 3 years. It was designed to mimic the effect of an amnesty buy-out this season, but releasing Redden to free agency now.

The NHL and the players' association have reached an agreement to allow teams an accelerated compliance buyout on players such as Montreal's center Scott Gomez and defenseman Wade Redden of the New York Rangers, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.

Those buyouts, which can be used by any of the NHL's 30 teams, will carry the full cap charge for the remainder of the 2013 season. The hit will then come off the cap this summer and the buyout will revert to two-thirds spread out for the remaining years.

So, in Redden's case, the Rangers will pay him 100 percent in salary owed for this year while incurring his full cap hit minus the money, approximately $900,000, saved by assigning him to the AHL's Connecticut Whale.

One benefit to NYR, MON or anyone else who uses this buyout: frees up a spot on reserve list. Each team has a 50-contract limit.
