Or released. I saw that LA lost Hickey on waivers to the Islanders. That was a waste of a #4 overall pick.

No. Bobby Mac said. The teams get no benefits from this. It's to make it fair for the player. FULL CAP HIT remains.

#NYR So in Redden's case, team pays him 100% of salary owed this year. Full cap hit minus $ saved assigning him to AH L
some discrepency here. We'll see

well the team opens up a roster spot at least, and drops a contract. Not huge wins by any means, but its something.

Hasn't that been known for a while now? I mean, I don't think it's really some big new development. Maybe it just wasn't talked about much before.

No. When first reported, Kypreos and BobbyMac said that buy was okay now, but you retain FULL cap hit. Now it's being reported that the teams still will save the 900k.

Why the heck would they just "release" Weber? That would be moronic.

Full cap hit for 2013 and 100 percent on the dollar for salary. Only real winners here are the players who get to continue their careers now

So Gomez will be bought out, but he won't be out of work for long. Told several teams interested in him. More here:

That would make no sense. Why would teams let taht player go elwhere and have a HIGHER cap hit than sending that player home?

Is anyone else surprised that the NHL did something that made this much sense?

Because if given the option, is sure looks a lot more professional.

Probably means the full cap hit they would have had at home(minus 900k) instead of 33% like a normal buyout.

The only things that changes for the Habs is that Gomez can find another job. His contract still comes off our cap next season. I have no problem with this.

But couldn't Bergevin still refuse to buy him out now and tell him to stay at home for the season?

#CBA Players like Redden/Gomez will not become UFAs until team waives them and they clear waivers

That would be pretty classless imo. He would look like a dick. The PA fought for the players and the GM denies the opportunity. As a new GM, doubt Bergevin makes that call.

That wouldn't look very good on management or the Habs in general.

why would the NHL and PA punish teams for "doing the right thing"?

Pretty ridiculous that any of the cap hit is staying if the players are being allowed to play elsewhere.

I really don't see the logic either. Makes not much sense for a team to make this move.

Because they are already making a special exemption to the new CBA.

By guess is that Gomez ends up either in New Jersey, Pheonix or Chicago.
