Besides, DL should have cut bait no later than the start of last season when Voynov made the team over Hickey. We had multiple D-men on the pro rosters (I beleive 8 when everyone was healthy). I do not agree with your assessment that Hickey held no value either, but neither of us can prove that so let's just leave that as is.
Yes, teams may have been holding out knowing he might be waived. If a guy was worth ANYTHING to you, don't you think you would give up a peanut rather than risk somebody else claiming him ahead of you? The obvious answer is nobody felt it was worth the risk to give up anything. They don't want give up assets because Hickey is far from a sure thing. Waiver wire costs you nothing. Trading for him means you have to open a roster spot for a guy with no experience or risk losing him for nothing like the Kings did. I don't I understand how you can think Hickey had any value. DL just chose to give him away for free?

That means nothing in terms of actually ability. If Hickey can't even do what Drewiske does, then I retract all of my statements about Hickey and gladly except the fact he's gone. Hell, if he can't sit in a press box 75 games a season and play about 13 minutes a game the rest of the time, then Hickey should have been cut years ago. When it comes to Drewiske it has little to do about skillset and a lot to do about a guy who can jump in and eat a few minutes without getting destroyed out there. He's not doing anything other than giving the other 5 D-men a chance to suck on a water bottle. He's not filling in for anyone in particular, and certainly not Mitchell.
Drewiske has proven he can play at the NHL level when needed. Hickey hasn't in 5 seasons since being drafted. If Hickey could do Drewiske's job better than him, he'd still be here. He can't and wasn't given a chance to because he didn't earn it like the 3 guys ahead of him on the depth chart did. Nail Yakupov was drafted last year, not 5 seasons ago. Apples and oranges. My point is Drewiske has playey however many games he has played at the NHL level because management feels confident he can do his job when needed. The opposite of Hickey is true which is why he isn't here. And regards to Drewiske's skillset, yes, that is exactly what he will do. Something Hickey has not shown he can. Hickey was surpassed on the depth chart by a bunch of players who were drafted after him.

BTW, if Hickey gets waived by the Islanders will you be singing a different tune?

Hickey isn't a bust, but DL drafting him at #4 certainly was.

As I said, you nor me can prove anything in regards to tarde value, so i'll just leave this part be. And once again, my main beef regarding trade value was him not being dealt earlier, not so much in the middle of training camp fresh out of a lockout. He should have been traded 2 years ago, not waived yesterday.

But I thought you just said Drewiske has a different skill set? Which is it? He has a different skill set or he can do his job better than Hickey?

You can claim it both if you want, and go ahead, but I'd wager many Manchester watchers will debate that with you. The reason Drewiske's here is he is a cheap plug to sit in the pressbox and that's it. The Kings KNOW this, but they don't KNOW Hickey can do it (and likely appreciate the fact he needs to play to be effective), hence why they tried to send him down, to give him playing time.

Finally, it's abit hard to prove you can or can't play at the NHl level when you've never been given a chance. You can say Hickey hasn't earned that, I'll just disagree with that based on what our Manchester viewers are saying. Once again, we can just age to disagree.

If you would at lest take the time to read the very post you quoted, you'd see I wrote the following:

It is my opinion that the proof is in the pudding. I don't think DL was leaving money on the table.

Both. Drewiske plays a more stay at home style and is bigger than Hickey. And yes, I am saying the Hickey didn't earn it. If he had, he would have been given a shot before Martinez AND Voynov in the past 2 years. I'll take management's opinion on a player over what a few people on a message board are saying any day. The fact that Hickey was waived would lead most people to believe that the Kings weren't offered anything for him. I think that says

Sorry I must have overlooked that. But the bottom line is IF managment would have believed Hickey could do what Drewiske could do, he'd still be here. I think it speaks volumes that the three guys on the roster that were kept over Hickey were all drafted after him.

If Hickey can't crack the Islanders roster, then he really don't deserve to be in the NHL. I haven't heard of any of the other guys they are referring to in the thread on the Islanders board so I'd think he at least has a shot.

If they still lose, who cares what he does? Some of us have been saying the same thing about Moulson.

All this talk about Muzzin and his poor game smarts reminds me of the same things people said about Matt Greene when he was a rookie. We know how that turned out.

They probably wouldn't have signed one of Scuderi or Mitchell.

I always felt bad for Clune. Seemed like had earned a roster spot going into the 2009-10 season. Clune tweaked his groin at Frozen Fury and missed a couple months. He got stuck in the AHL for most of the year. The next season he got leapfrogged by a 19 year old Clifford on the depth chart.

Don't play video games as often as I used to, but I'd typically use the Islanders in franchise mode (ie, they were the closest thing to an expansion team). Clune was a staple on my team as a healthy scratch forward.

Michigan is freakin' awful this year. I'm just happy that they managed to win when I visited in November. At least they got Jon Merrill back recently who hopefully can help with their dreadful PP. I'm starting to become paranoid about DL's comments about Michigan not developing their D. I'm not 100% sure Merrill's any better now than he was during his freshman year in 2010. Although with Merrill, there was a bigger element about him growing up outside the rink.

Jacob Trouba also seems to roam around a lot and gets caught in the offensive zone. Seems like he can get away with that in college, but he might have to reel that in at the next level.

But yeah, I watched Michigan/Bowling Green last week and I swear I lost brain cells.

Manchester needs some serious help. Andreoff is the only everyday player who is any kind of powerforward. They have Justin Johnson too, but he's strictly a tough guy, but the rest of the forwards are softies or young kids. Wonder if DL or RH brings someone else in...

I wouldn't call Hickey a bust, he's clearly good enough to play in the NHL. Just whiffed on the pick is all, it happens to everyone. I've expected this to happen for about a season or so now, as soon as he became waiver eligible unfortunately there was no way he was going to be able to stick around. What's good is that, let's be honest, we don't need him at all.

Now about Clune, no comment. Was always told not to say anything at all if I didn't have something good to say.

Yeah I'm sure they'll do something because not only do they not have power forwards, but they just lost two roster players. Gotta fill the holes somehow.

Manchesters roster looks brutal right now.

12 forwards, 5 defensemen and 3 goalies.

Hope Lombardi and Hextall have an ace up their sleeves.

Sure, but I doubt they would have the opportunities needed to do so here. Certainly in the case of Hickey, since he would have been a bottom pairing guy here. Even then, if the player analysis of some on this board is accurate, Hickey has become more of a stay at home D-man, so don't look for him to put up a bunch of points.

When Hickey and Moulson BOTH put up 50 and start winning cups with the Islanders then I would start to maybe lose some sleep.

Peluso? I hope so...But if the Kings pick up an AHL/NHL'er on waivers they can't send him down and we already are log jammed. DL has to sign AHL contract guys only or trade something for prospects already in the AHL.

Peluso has enough upside to where I could see us making room. I know its more of a "wouldn't it be great" sort of thing but it is what it is.
